Does Google PageRank Count Anymore?
Google has long since down-played the importance of PageRank
and has now removed it from Webmaster Tools. So is PageRank
still important and should you still bother with it? Find out
by reading this article...
Does Google PageRank Count Anymore?
PageRank is one of those things every webmaster notices and
wonders about... especially those webmasters who are fighting
some fierce keyword battles in very competitive niche markets.
Does having a high PR number really push your page to the
top for very competitive keywords in Google's index?
Guess the big question is this: if PageRank is only one of
200 ranking factors - how important is it in Google's whole
ranking system? Does that one factor make a difference to
your rankings?
Of course, the main reason Google is down-playing PR is because
of rampant link selling on the web. In the past, sites with
high PR7 or PR8 could earn big bucks by selling links. Google
has since lowered the PR on sites that were selling links -
how they can prove this is beyond me, but by lowering or
down-playing PageRank, Google has stopped a lot of obvious
link selling on the web.
Link selling and buying is Google's main business.
It is the backing to all their successes and anyone corrupting
their ranking system had to be dealt with, if Google wanted to
keep their rankings honest. A true reflection of what surfers
want to find when they click that link in Google search.
Can't blame Google for wanting to keep profits flowing and
their search index honest.
However, will Google totally get rid of PageRank? Why
don't they?
Many experts argue PageRank is simply too much a part of
Google's brand, they can't get rid of it. Google must keep it...
actually they should keep it and not show it at all. Mainly
because if they kept this little monster secret in the first place,
it could have saved them a lot of headaches.
But all this is pure speculation on my part - what webmasters
do when they have too much time on their hands. But the
whole PageRank issue still raises more concerns, even
while Google is down-playing it.
