Over the years, I have found it is best to give Google what
Google wants. This is one simple SEO rule that will never change!

The Panda (Content Farm) Update hit many sites which depend
upon article marketing really hard. Traffic from article sites
are down... this is/was extremely targeted traffic flowing first
from Google, thru the article directories and then to your site.

A lot of that traffic is no longer flowing... many sites like
Ezinearticles have done a major overhaul of their homepage
and many other pages on their site.

One thing Google is speaking out about is Site Speed/Load times...
the faster the better because then Google users and searchers have
a much better experience if your page loads fast. Giving quality
results is Google's modus operandi.

Besides having a fast loading page is in your best interest,
regardless of Google or your Google rankings.
