For most online marketers Google is the only
search engine that really counts. It has now
over 60% of the all important U.S. search
traffic market. In other countries it's over 80%
or more.

Simply put, Google delivers the most traffic.

I have always geared my online marketing towards
Google. I have spent years building my rankings
for my keywords and my sites within Google. If you
take out the fact that it has nearly driven me
nuts, it has mostly been a positive experience.

In trying to reach the highest rankings possible
I have to be constantly aware of what Google
thinks of my site and content. I try to find
out as much about Google as is humanly possible.

But Google doesn't give up its secrets easily.
In fact finding out what Google thinks of your
content can only be truly read in your rankings
in their SERPs - if your keywords/site is in
the number one spot then Google must think you
deserve to be there.

.....................................................................
Checking Your Content/Keywords In Google
.....................................................................

However, there are other ways of finding out
how Google is viewing your content. One handy
tool that will show you what Google thinks your
pages consist of is here:

Google Keyword Tool

Just type in your URL and tick off website content
and you will get a listing of the major keywords
Google has for your content. If your targeted
keyword or keywords are not listed, then you have
to do some re-writing.

..................................................................
Checking Your Backlinks In Google
..................................................................

Another helpful tool is to find out how many
backlinks you have in Google. If you want to
find the number of backlinks your site has.

Just type into Google Search:

link:yourURL

and it will give you the number of backlinks you have.

Google doesn't give you all your existing backlinks,
so you can try Yahoo! to find a more exact number.

Just open Yahoo! and type in:
linkdomain:yourURL

Now whether Google is using or considering all
these backlinks is the big question? Finding the
exact number of backlinks you have in Google has
always been a problem because Google is not giving
you the exact number - or at least this is the
general opinion of most SEO experts.

.............................................................
Checking Your Indexed Pages In Google
.............................................................

If is very important for you to know what content
the search engines have indexed from your site.
You can also check to see how your links are
displayed and to see if any titles or descriptions
are missing from your pages.

You can see how many of your pages are indexed
in Google by using the site command.

Just type into Google Search:

site:yourURL

................................................................
Checking Your PageRank Within Google
................................................................

Another tricky issue is PageRank. This is
supposed to be the heart of Google's ranking
system but again Google is using "smoke and mirrors"
mainly to cut off abuse and manipulation of
their results. Some experts say PageRank counts,
other say it doesn't.

You can check your Google PageRank here:

Google PR Checker

From my own experiences, I have received more
traffic when my site was at PR4 than I received
at PR6. What is important is getting high rankings
for your targeted keywords... if you get top spots,
it doesn't matter if you're PR4 or PR6, you're still
getting the traffic.

I would like to add one point to the whole PageRank
issue and that has to do with perception. If you're
running an online business having a PR8 site does
matter - it will bring in more business and customers
(especially if you're in the SEO industry) mainly
because of the "perceived value" of your site or
business.

In this case, what Google thinks of your site can
play a major role in your success.

headed in regards to their Search Engine, here's

o Article: How To Get Traffic From Google

o Squidoo Secrets: How To Use Squidoo For Traffic

o Rating Dominator: How to Use Customer Ratings For Traffic

--------------------------------------

When it's all said and done, the key to being a success on
the web is traffic.

Traffic, it is all about getting visitors to your site or
sites.

Getting traffic and lots of it, is one of first major hurdles
for most webmasters. Today's letter is all about getting more
traffic.

Keep in mind, you just don't want traffic, you want targeted
traffic to your site or sites. These visitors are searching
for your information or products. The best sources for targeted
traffic are the search engines.

And the major search engine is Google. Conquering Google is
the key to getting most of the search engine traffic on the
web. MSN and Yahoo! are important but they won't deliver the
goods. At least not in the numbers that Google can.

I read my log stats on my sites religiously and Google accounts
for over half of my search engine traffic. And I have gotten
first place listings in ALL THREE engines for some long-tail
keywords. Google just delivers the goods - plain and simple.

You have to Optimize your site for Google. You have to
understand how Google works.

You have to understand how Google ranks the billions of
webpages it has in its index. You have to understand Google's
Ranking Factors. What it uses to rank all those webpages.
These ranking factors are very important and you should
know them.

This article points out the major ranking factors and
how you can use them to get traffic from Google.

How To Get Traffic From Google
(By Using Google's Algorithm!)

Recently Rand Fishkin of Seomoz.org brought together
37 of the world's Top SEO experts to tackle Google's
Algorithm, the complex formula and methods Google uses
to rank web pages. This ranking formula is extremely
important to webmasters because finding which factors
Google uses to rank their index is often considered
the Holy Grail of site optimization.

Google's ranking factors affect how and where you are
listed in their search engine results or SERPs. Since
obtaining top positions for your targeted keywords often
spells success for your site, knowing Google's ranking
factors can be very beneficial.

Every experienced webmaster will know Google is the
main supplier of search engine traffic on the web, getting
listed on the first page or anywhere in the top 10 positions
for popular keywords will result in plenty of free quality
targeted traffic.

Briefly listed below are some of the main ranking factors
you should be optimizing your web pages for in your
marketing. The majority of these ranking factors will
be very familiar to most webmasters who take full
advantage of any and every SEO tactic which will
give their site an edge over their competition.

Here are some of the main ranking factors to consider:

1. Keywords In Your Title And On Your Page

Place your keyword or keyword phrase in the title of your
page and also in your copy. Many webmasters use variations
of their keywords on this page and also include it in the
H1 headline.

2. Keywords In Your URL

Keep your page on topic and place your keyword in the URL.
Use your keyword in the H2, H3... headlines. Place it in the
description and meta tags, place it in bold/strong tags, but
keep your content readable and useful. Be aware of the text
surrounding your keywords, search engines will become more
semantic in the coming years so context is important.

3. Create High Quality Relevant Content

Have high quality relevant content on your pages. Your
content should be related to the topic of your site and
updated regularly depending on the nature of your site.

4. Internal Onsite Linking

Internal linking is important to your overall ranking. Make
sure your linking structure is easy for the spiders to crawl.
Most suggest a simple hierarchy with links no more than three
clicks away from your home/index page.

Creating traffic modes or clusters of related links within
a section on your site has proven very effective for many
webmasters, including this one. For example, creating a
simple online guide on a subject related to your site's topic
can prove very beneficial. Keep all the links connected and
closely related in subject matter and don't forget to have
occasional external 'anchor keyworded' links coming to these
internal links on your site instead of to your homepage.
Deep build your links.

5. Only Linking To High Quality Related Sites

Don't forget to link to high quality PR related sites. Linking
to high quality sites shows the search engines your site is very
useful to your visitors. Build relationships within communities
on the topic of your site. Be extremely careful not to link to
bad neighborhoods, link farms and spam sites... when in doubt,
don't link out!

Unless your site has been around for years and is well
established and trusted by Google, this factor will have an
adverse effect on your site's overall ranking. Linking only
to high quality content sites will give your site an edge
over your competition.

6. Global Linking Popularity

One of the major ranking factors is the Global Linking
Popularity of your site. You should try to build plenty
of inbound links from quality sites. One simple and
effective way to do this is through writing articles
and submitting them to the online article directories.
Only related sites will pick up and display your articles
with your anchor text links back to your site. These are
often ONE-WAY-LINKS.

But don't just write articles to get links, write quality
content that will help the reader first and the links will
come naturally. Also remember an article is an extremely
good way of pre-selling your products and gaining trust
with your potential customers.

7. Anchor Text Is Very Important

Anchor text is an important factor your must not forget
to use. Perhaps more importantly these inbound links should
be related or relevant to your site's topic, which will
play an important role in your rankings. Don't ignore the
text surrounding your links and use different anchor text
links to avoid keyword spamming.

Keep in mind, as search engines become more semantic, the
whole text of your article will probably be considered your
anchor text, thus making articles even more important to your
rankings.

8. Number And Quality Of Your Inbound Links

Your inbound links should also come from related high Global
Link Popular sites. The more links your have from these popular
related sites the higher rankings you will get. Many SEO experts
suggest you should have a steady stream of new sites (inbound
links) added each month to keep your rankings growing. These
links will age and increase your rankings after 4 or 5 months.
Both quality and quantity is important.

9. Reliable Server And Service

Like any business, Google is only serving up a product (SERPs)
to its customers, this service must be continuous and available
at all times. Made sure you have a good reliable server because
any extended downtime when your site is inaccessible to the Bots
may be detrimental to your rankings. If it is down for over 48
hours, you could be dropped from the index. Ouch!

10. Duplicate Content Is A NO NO!

Make certain you don't place duplicate content on your site.
This may affect your rankings and get your pages thrown into
the supplemental index. Be careful not to use duplicate title
or mega tags on your pages as this will lower and disburse your
internal page rankings, resulting in poor optimization.

Your overall SEO strategy should be to provide valuable relevant
content and links for your visitors and for the search engines.
Furthermore, as mentioned earlier, be extremely careful who
you link out to from your site. Avoid spam sites, link farms
or selling links. Although it is a bit outdated, using the
Google Toolbar will still give you a general overview of a
site's PR or Page Rank.

These are some of the most common and important ranking
factors Google uses to rank and display their search engine
results. Optimizing your site or keywords for these factors
can prove very beneficial and rewarding.

There are many more factors so you should use the Seomoz.org
link in the resource box below to get all the useful details. For
any novice or experienced webmaster it makes for a fascinating
read and is extremely helpful in tackling Google's complex ranking
system or algorithm. Conquer it and an endless supply of free

Have You Ever Squidooed?
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXxx

The Internet is constantly changing. You must change with it.

You have probably been hearing a lot about Web 2.0 or the social
media sites like Squidoo or MySpace... these are community
based sites where the visitors create the content.

Tapping into the whole Web 2.0 doesn't have to be complicated
- setting up lenses (your own pages) on Squidoo.com is simple
and painless. It doesn't cost anything and if you do it right,
you will get a lot of traffic.

One of best courses I found on Squidoo is by Bob Jenkins.
It's called Squidoo Secrets and you can get all the information
you need to start taking advantage of this excellent source
of Web 2.0 traffic.

Learning all the 'ins and outs' of Squidoo is worth your
while... you must take advantage of these social traffic
hubs or lose out.

------------------------------------
Another Web 2.0 Traffic Source
------------------------------------

Of course one of the best ways to tap into the whole
new social/community/media system is by using blogs.

I would recommend WordPress because its simple and
powerful. It is also a free system. I have it on all
my websites.

Actually, I created one of my sites (www.marketingtoolguide.com)
entirely within the WordPress structure - although it is
a complete resource site and not necessary just a blog!

The main reason for this is Tags: in the new Web 2.0 Internet
everything - and I do mean everything - will be tagged and
keyworded like there's no tomorrow. WordPress has this whole
tagging system built-in its programming. Targeting your main
keywords couldn't be easier.

Put blogs and RSS feeds on your site or sites if you don't
already have them in place - you should!

Recently, I came across another interesting resource
dealing with WordPress that you should also know about.

It is called Rating Dominator - and it is a Free Plug-in
for WordPress.

Basically, this Plug-in sets up your blog or site to
allow visitors to rate products or services on your
webpages. All the major retail sites like Amazon have
these in place, where customers can give their reviews
and ratings of different products.

Visitor created content is the wave of future, let your
visitors create your content and your traffic. Those sites
that can accomplish this feat will really prosper and grow.
The more interaction you get, the more the traffic will
flow.

Here's the link to put a rating system on your site
using a WordPress Plug-in. You do have know or be
familiar with WordPress to be able to set this up.
But it comes with a video that walk you thru the
set-up procedure. If you're a non-tech person
like myself you will find this video very helpful
and convenient to have.

Here's the link:

Be aware this comes with an OTO (one time offer) but
just ignore this if you're not interested and
click thru to the download.

..............

If you found this newsletter helpful, maybe others
will also find it helpful. Just point them to this
blog. I have found one of the best ways to succeed
on the web is by providing helpful information
to others. No reason why you can't do the same!

Much Success,

Titus Hoskins
