Does Google Believe Your Links Are Real?

Without a doubt, where Google is concerned, the last
year and half, has seen more disruption for webmasters
than the last 10 years combined. The Panda Updates have
taken well-established sites and completely wiped out
their valuable search engine traffic coming from Google.

Google seems to be moving more towards brand/corporate
sites in free organic search, even for general topic
keywords where a comparison or review site would seem
like a much better fit or relevant match for the search
query. These corporate sites are now displacing the
more "affiliate focused" sites at an alarming rate.

One just has to wonder:

Does Google Really Care About Relevancy Anymore?

Some are even suggesting Google is rewarding its
corporate Adwords clients with free organic traffic
- if true, this practice could be a very smart business
move on Google's part. The more revenue these clients
make, the more they will spend on advertising.

Simple greed dictates this will probably be the case.

However, a more likely scenario is that Google has
come down hard on those sites and webmasters who
have "SEOed" their sites to get the top rankings. The
whole Panda Fallout could just be re-arranging or
de-ranking these affiliate based sites because of too
much link building and too much optimization.

These sites have to be replaced with other sites...
why not have the corporate brand name sites take these
top spots - regardless of relevancy.

Anyway, I have a placed a whole article on this
subject on my site here:

Does Google Believe Your Links Are Natural?

5 SEO Benefits Of Using A WordPress Blog

Sometimes we take all this SEO stuff for granted,
especially if you have been marketing online for over
10 years. However, the search engines, especially Google
has a "not-so-nice-way" of reminding us that we must
get all our SEO ducks lined up or we are in for
a few shocks, ie. The Panda Updates.

Now I have always used WordPress blogs on my most
of my sites. They are a great way of keeping your
site fresh and current. Posting or adding content
is a breeze and can be done with "zero knowledge"
of HTML coding. Anyone can do it.

Besides the constant flow of spam (if you don't
turn off comments and trackbacks), there really
are no major drawbacks to using WP.

However, there are some major SEO benefits which
everyone should be aware of, especially if they
want their keywords to rank in the search engines.
In a recent blog post on my WordPress blog, I go
over 5 of these major benefits in some detail.

You can find the post here:

More Reactions To The Latest Google Panda 2.5.2 Update

Last week, on Oct. 14th, I noticed a big down-swing in my
traffic numbers coming from Google search. I immediately
checked my keywords and most of them were down... not a good
thing and not a good sign.

I have been marketing online for 10 years, and have weathered
countless Google Updates... actually none of them really
affected my Google traffic in any big way. On the first run
through of Panda, some of my keyword rankings dipped a bit
but nothing too alarming or drastic.

Besides, my numbers jumped back up a month or so later, but
last week's down-grade was not expected and rather surprising
-like a sledgehammer to the skull - it was a real wake-up call.

But I am not alone, other webmasters have been reacting
to this latest Panda roar: http://www.seroundtable.com/google-panda-252-level-14182.html and http://www.webmasterworld.com/google/4374667.htm

While I didn't panic, I did become very concerned mainly because
most of major competitors kept their rankings. I don't mind it
when we ALL jump around on that first page... but when it's only your
site that seems to be affected - then it is really time to worry
and act.

What am I doing wrong? Why did my site get hit? What triggered
the latest penalties?

Now I have numerous websites and only a few were affected by
these latest Google adjustments... and since these Panda changes
have to do mainly with "Site Quality" - I had to take a hard
look at my content and how it is presented.

Here Are Some Of Things I Checked And Did:

1. Checked my site in Google Webmaster Tools and found there
were no problem/issues with my sites.

2. Checked to see if my site had any Spyware/Malware issues
but it had none: http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/

3. Used Free Xenu Software to check all interior links on my site
to see if there were all working. Fixed a few broken links.

4. Used the same software to check and fix any broken external
links. Boy - did I get a surprise here. I had a lot of broken
links... which I fixed in a hurry! Can't believe how many websites
or businesses are going under and no longer exist.

5. Checked the number of outbound links I had and eliminated
a lot of them, especially too many affiliate links on one page.

6. Checked again for duplicate content and did find a few affiliate
pages from an affiliate marketer that weren't original so I quickly
deleted those pages. In the distant past, I used to put all my
own articles on this main site and also submitted them to the article
directories. This could be an issue, but I don't want to erase all
my own original content - even though it is not unique. I now
only submit different or unique articles to the directories.

7. Checked my backlinks and found some article directories have
gone a bit paranoid. Buzze.com has even deleted all of its articles,
even the unique ones. Now you can still submit an article to
Buzzle but you can't have a link out - not even in your profile.
Haven't these guys ever hear of the "nofollow" tag. Take about
being Google Whipped!

And I also wrote another article on the whole experience, I tried
to keep my sense of humor and perspective on this matter because some
of my keywords have already gone back up a few spaces but I am still
hurting.

Anyway, you can find the article here:

Your Competitor's Most Powerful SEO Strategies

As a full-time online marketer, you have to keep a close
eye on what your competitors are doing. It is a simple matter
of survival.

Especially what SEO strategies and tactics your competitors
are using to "outrank" you in the search engines, mainly
Google. These tactics can range anywhere from solid strictly
"WhiteHat" methods to down right dirty "BlackHat" techniques
that will leave your mind spinning.

From what I can observe in some very competitive and some very
lucrative niche markets... one of the most effective SEO
methods is simply building a "cluster" or "group" of sites
all related to your theme or subject area.

Linking all these sites together will usually get you, not
one, not two, not three... but four or more sites in the
top 10 on that all important first page of Google.
Even Post Panda and all its aftershocks have not lowered
these sites in the rankings, but increased them.

And the key lies in the fact that these sites have good,
high quality content and probably deserve to be in the
top ten. However, they are all owned by the same person
or company... there's probably nothing wrong with this
savvy marketing technique if you don't mind someone
hogging the spotlight or rather taking all the sales.

Don't just build one site, build fifty or a hundred.

Outrank your competitors by pure volume.

But that's just one of the SEO tactics your competitors
may be using to knock you off the first page. Click this
link to discover many more... you might not like what you
see.

Does Google Bowling Really Work?

Google Bowling is one of those nasty BlackHat techniques everyone
wishes didn't work but there is mounting evidence that it actually
does work - especially for sites which don't, as yet, have a solid
linking history or high page rank.

Google Bowling is building/buying countless spammy links for your
main competing sites in order to "undermine" their rankings in Google.

While there is an ongoing argument of whether or not this can
actually be done, a few webmasters have tested this technique
by building spammy links to one of their own test sites and
checking the results. And it does actually lower the Google
Rankings... when those spammy links are removed, the rankings
go back up.

http://www.neilshearing.com/2011/08/26/google-bowling-update-all-sites-at-risk/

Google, in the past, have stated that inbound links doesn't affect
your rankings... mainly because a webmaster has no real control over
this and anyone can place "low quality" links to your site, even those
from link farms. Google has also been fighting "link buying" for years
and try to penalize sites which buy links.

Obviously, this is a very complex complicated issue that must give
Google a lot of headaches... finding those links is no problem but
figuring out who is actually buying them or building them is a whole
different story.

This has all led some unscrupulous marketers to sabotage their
competition by buying/building those kinds of links and directing
these links to interior high ranking pages of their competition.
Even if Google discovers what's going on, these marketers can still
gain months of traffic and sales from their competitors.

Now, after the Panda Update, when site quality is all important, these
spammy links could prove even more troublesome for the honest webmaster.

Is someone lowering your rankings in Google?

SEO Strategy - How To Simplify The Whole SEO Process

If you're a full-time online marketer and webmaster, you may get the feeling (in my case a stubborn opinion) that because SEO has become such a big industry, it has to be "complicated up" rather than "dumbed down" for the receiving audience. In other words, it is in the best interest of SEO firms and services, to make SEO seem like a much more complex process than it actually is in practice.

This applies doubly true for when it comes to ranking high in Google. Many SEO firms go into all kinds of "linking structures", "site metrics", "keyword correlations", "onpage factors"... in explaining how to achieve those top Google spots for lucrative keywords. Granted, the Google Algorithm has over 200 ranking signals or factors, which they use to rank pages. And this mathematical formula is constantly being redefined or altered by major changes, such as the recent Panda Update, which left many webmasters reeling.

But...

While Google's ranking Algorithm and system might be the most complex creature on the planet, ranking high in Google is a very simple process. So simple anyone can do it and achieve first page listings in Google. It's not rocket science and it's not complex by any stretch of the imagination. However, it does take some work on the part of the webmaster to actively promote his or her site. In other words, if you just create a perfect site and place it on the web and do nothing else - chances are extremely high you won't get those top rankings in Google, at least not for the highly competitive lucrative keyword phrases.

This is where SEO (Search Engine Optimization) enters the picture and takes over. You must get certain factors/signals right if you want your site to truly compete in major search engine keyword battles. But most of these things or factors are not difficult or hard to understand, you just need to have them in place if you want top listings in the search engines.

Here are some things you can do to simplify the whole SEO process:

1. Try to create a short domain with your targeted keyword in the domain name, go with a .com domain if you can get it and if you have to use a multi-worded domain, try to get your keyword at the beginning.

2. Create an "easy to navigate" unique content rich site which is optimized for the search engines, but directed solidly at solving your visitor's needs. If you're on a budget, one of the easiest ways to do this is to use the free Wordpress software/platform to create a keyword optimized site. Make sure this site is totally intertwined with all the latest social networking programs such as Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Linkedin, YouTube... make sure you have profiles/accounts in all of these platforms to compliment your main site.

3. Link to main interior pages from your home or index page. These interior pages should have your targeted keywords in the "Title", "URL", "Meta Tags", "H1 Headings", "First Paragraph", "Last Paragraph" and use keyword variations throughout the content. Place a few in bold print and italics. Don't be afraid to create large pages and link out to other authority sites in your niche. Don't worry about keyword density unless it goes over 4%... this should not happen if you write naturally for your visitor and not for the search engines.

4. Build quality one-way links by creating articles, press releases, blog posts, videos, viral reports... and submit these to the major places on the web such as free article directories (my favorites are still ezinearticles, goarticles, buzzle, ideamarketers, isnare and article alley). The real trick here is to consistently produce fresh content, which steadily builds your backlinks month after month, year after year, decade after decade!

5. Do whatever you can do to enrich your visitor's experience. Add valuable free content, free ebooks or ecourses, offer comprehensive guide or guides to your visitors. Connect all this free content to your autoresponder opt-in list or newsletter and build repeat targeted traffic to your site. In addition, make it extremely easy for these visitors to bookmark/follow your content in all the social media sites: Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Google +1, and so on.

6. Rinse and Repeat. One of the little known tactics about achieving top rankings in the search engines, especially Google, is to create not one site but two or more sites in your niche market. (If you're on a budget or time is short, try creating two pages on the your domain related to the same targeted keyword.) Instead of trying to rank for one site in Google, create two complimentary sites on the same related keywords, and you will find it much easier to get to the top spots. Interlink these sites and you can even promote them together, just make sure they each have unique content and adds more detail and/or information for the visitor.

Over the years, I have come to believe strongly, achieving high rankings is not some complex process but just a matter of persistence. Consistently promoting your content by building quality backlinks will get you to the top and keep you there. But the whole trick is persistence, keeping at it, day after day... building those links back to your content. I also believe it is the number of backlinks which is the key and this has been proven to me many times over the years. Many SEO experts will now argue that links have taken a back seat to other factors such as site authority and structure, but I am not convinced this has happened. At least not yet, but data from the 160+ million Google Chrome users and the new Google +1 Button, may eventually lower the importance of backlinks and PageRank.

However, at the present time, if I stop promoting a page or competitive keyword, it usually drops from the first page of Google. To get it back on the first page, all I have to do is promote it with a few articles, blog posts, press releases, videos... and it jumps back into the top spots, even Post Panda. For years, I had a webpage for "list building" in Google on the first page, then I stopped promoting it with keyword related articles, posts, content... it dropped to the third page of Google. Changing none of the ranking factors mentioned above, I was quickly able to get that page and ranking back to the #5 spot by simply creating some current backlinks to the content. I mention all this because many times, SEO firms and experts will try to complicate things with convoluted explanations and complex processes. While in actual fact, achieving high rankings can be simplified down to nothing more than persistence and adding a few quality backlinks.

Does Your Site Need An SEO Checkup?

The Google Panda Update did change the way Google
ranks pages and sites. Some major important sites have
lost their rankings and they don't seem to be getting those
traffic numbers back from Google.

Now more than ever, it is important that you get
all your site's SEO issues fixed or done properly.

While the number of quality one-way links you have flowing
back to your site will be the most vital ranking factor,
you must get all your other SEO things right with your
site or you could lose ranking points, especially in
Google.

So here's more information on this topic, complete with
a link where you can quickly do an SEO Checkup on your

Bizwaremagic.com Gets a Minor Facelift

Due to recent changes within Google and its latest Panda Algorithm
update dealing with "content farms" and low quality content,
Bizwaremagic.com has made some minor changes to reflect current
SEO waters.

One of these changes is to cut down on the number of links (mostly internal)
which appears on the Index or home page... Google recommends around a 100
per page but I usually go a little higher than that due to the nature of
the site. Resources, articles, software, downloads... all demanding some
attention from the visitor.

Perhaps, an even bigger change has to do with articles on the site, in
the past not all the articles were unique to the site. In other words,
Bizwaremagic articles which appeared on the site were also submitted to
articles directories on the web and elsewhere.

Going forward, only unique articles and content will be placed on
Bizwaremagic.com... any other articles and content will be written
separately for these directories and related partnering sites.

Google gets what Google wants... although some very savvy SEO experts
believe you shouldn't always follow Google's guidelines to the "T"
because you site will be "TOO" over optimized and not natural.

In the end, it all comes down to quality content that visitors
want and need. If they can only find that information or quality
content on your site... the search engines can't ignore you.

Your site and rankings will be driven from this core source and
the search engines will just have to follow the visitors which
are attracted to your quality content. One follows the other... at
least in a perfect world.

Bizwaremagic.com has always reflected this goal and has been
giving visitors what they want since 2002!

Onwards and upwards... the newer site:

Let's Hope This Panda Roars

Well, at least Google's latest Panda Algorithm Update has
many webmasters and site owners calling foul. They believe
their sites have been adversely affected by Google's latest
try at cutting down on low quality sites and content farms.
As of yet, few of my sites have been affected, so I am keeping
my fingers crossed, but I take a much more relaxed view of
these Google Updates, even the major ones which come with
a name.

Last year's Mayday update hit me hard in the "long tail" but
I am still operating. Most times it's just a matter of
adjusting your SEO and the way you create your content.
If Google wants more high quality unique content on your
site - just shut up and put it there. What Google wants,
Google will generally get it - so why beat around the bush
and whine.

Now, what has upset many webmasters and some of them rightly so...
CNN just reported that Google's Algorithm change has affected
around 1 Billion in revenue or sales... if you're on the losing
end of that equation, maybe you have a right to protest. See some
sites which have been negatively affected here at
WebProNews: Foner Books and Suite101.

Like me, if you have experienced countless Google Updates,
you will realize Google usually does some fine tuning after
the hatchet falls. Traffic in most cases will come back if you
just wait awhile. I am hoping this is the case here too.

We all like to believe we produce superior content... but we
all have to take a close look to make sure it is indeed superior
to most of the stuff out there. This update will make webmasters
think twice before putting low quality content on their site...
if Google will penalize your site for it.

However, what really has me worried - will Google apply the same
"game over" call on your site like they do in their Adwords program.
In that program, once your site is judged as low quality... it's the
end - no amount of whining, fussing or begging will get your site
listed again. Go away, we don't want your business.

It's this kind of attitude that has many webmasters upset this time.
Google is the only game in town, if Google doesn't want you in their
game, it's the end of the road for many good hard working webmasters.
Or at least they will have to find other ways of getting quality
traffic to their site.

However, it's the search engine traffic from Google that's most
prized and appreciated, not to mention, the most valuable. Cleaning
up their index is a good idea for Google and everyone concerned.
Getting rid of spammy sites with little or no unique content is
also a good idea. Making only high quality content available to
web users has to be applauded and cheered.

I just hope Google can get it right. I just hope this Panda roars
and only the cream rises to the top.

To Increase Your Rankings Just Use This Free SEO Analyzer Tool

If you're an experienced webmaster or marketer, you will
already know, getting lots of quality one-way keyword
related backlinks is the "key" to getting top rankings.
However, having all your SEO factors on your website or page,
does make a slight difference, especially in close keyword
battles.

Making sure you have the right SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
techniques on your site, is definitely worth checking out. You
have to get this right, if you want your site or page to perform
the best that it can perform in the search engines.

While I personally think many of these SEO factors is somewhat
"over-rated", there's no harm in making sure your page or site
is up to the right standards. Besides, checking all these SEO stuff
will get you thinking about your content and how you can improve
it.

Never a bad idea.

For some reason, I really like the tool listed here on this page:

Free SEO Analyzer Tool

It will do a quick analysis of your URL and tell you how to improve
it. Simple things or ways you can put into place the proper SEO
techniques.

I also like all the videos from Google's spokesperson Matt Cutts...
if you want advice on all this stuff, you might as well get it from
horse's mouth. I have found following Cutts' advice is usually "spot-on"
if you want your site to do well in Google.

However, there are some other other things you should keep in mind
with fixing all your SEO stuff... especially if you're into online
marketing like me. Getting the right SEO is just for starters, there
are other things you must get right, if you wish to earn revenue from
your content or site.

I present these other factors in my blog on my main site here:

5 Things I Wish I Knew About Internet Marketing (Before I Became a Full-Time Marketer)

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Yesterday, I made in the low 4 figures from my online marketing.

Those days are rare but they do happen once in awhile, but most days
I only make a faction of that amount. That's the great thing about
online marketing - you put all these sites and links on the web and
everything keeps building.

Work done years ago could just now be paying off in the form of higher
rankings in the search engines. That article you wrote two years ago
could just now be getting traffic and sending you potential customers.

When I read an article in SiteReference about site building
and 5 things that author wished they had known before they built
their first site. It started me thinking, what would be the 5 things
which I know now but didn't know then... and the difference that
knowledge would have made.

Hindsight is priceless, if only we could go back and start over again.
What things would we have done right the first time around? As for myself,
I wasted years before I really knew what I was doing... we all don't
suddenly wake up and turn into an Internet marketer. Not like becoming
a vampire, one bite and you're there!

It took me years of "trial and error" before I discovered what worked
and what didn't. I am still learning and the web is constantly changing.
Right now, Google Instant is flipping a lot of online marketing techniques
upside down and even throwing a few of them out the window... you can
always count on Google to make life interesting.

Anyway, I have written another one of my long article/pieces on those 5 Things
about Internet Marketing which I wish I knew when I was just starting out.
And like that poet on the road, it has made all the difference in the world.

Find the it here:

Advanced SEO Tactics - How To Combat Keyword Site Stuffing By A Major Competitor

If you're an online marketer, sooner or later this scary scenario will happen
to you: "Suddenly, out of nowhere, a major competitor has 3 or 4 sites popping
onto the first page of Google for your niche market. These sites are all
keyworded and optimized for the phrases you're targeting and you're getting
bulldozed off the first page."

Ouch!

This competitor by stringing four or more sites together, can virtually dominate
your niche market for all the lucrative keywords... some of these competitors
string 100s of sites together to completely wipe out the competition.

What to do about this serious problem?

Well, the above scenario has happened and is happening to me in several of my
most valuable niche markets. It makes your job as an "honest" and "ethical"
online marketer all the more harder - although there is probably nothing wrong
with creating 4 or 5 sites in a niche market. We are talking about completely
unique content sites which are not spammy or done by software.

Major companies can afford to hire writers, seo experts, webmasters... to line
up a solid organic campaign which can totally blow the small time marketer off
the first page. Completely.

Anyway, I have written a rather long list of my marketing tactics to combat
such an attack.... you can find my tactics here:

Is Google Instant the New Coke?

No, but...

After a week of Google Instant - some things are becoming
much more clearer in regards to online marketing. Google's
real time search may just be more of a game changer than I
first thought, especially with regards to organic results
and how they are displayed.

Valuable real estate is now being given to the Google Drop-down
menu and its Adwords paid listings... moving some organic results
further down and out of the fold. This can have poor results
in regard to the amount of traffic coming from Google.

Another major concern is the worry that Google is basing these
suggested keywords and listings NOT on rankings, but on its
compiled data of users' histories and activities. If more
emphasis is placed on this compiled data rather SEO and rankings
- will it mean the death of SEO as we now know it?

Maybe not, but Google Instant has all the hallmarks of changing
online marketing and SEO. Google could simply dictate what
listings should be suggested and shown to web searchers, taking
control from marketers and webmasters who play by all the SEO rules.

Within the last year, Google has made so many changes, it is
hard to still recognize the old Google. Whether all this "New
Google" is for the best - still remains to be seen. Let's hope
for their sake, Google takes a breather or at least keeps
"Classic Google" on the sidelines so that everyone can go back
to some peace and quiet when doing their searches.

After all, this new Coke may just be too hard to swallow
for some folks.

What Do You Know About SEO?

BWMagic's Internet Marketing News

Read it online here:
http://www.bizwaremagic.com/weblog

What Do You Know About SEO?

I am sometimes asked this question and my first reaction
is always: "Not very much!"

However, after over 10 of running websites on the net and
considering I have been a full-time search engine marketer for
the last 5 years - I must know something about SEO.

The reason that question often throws me off, I never set out
to learn SEO. It is just something I picked up along the way...
a good tactic here, a new phrase there, something that works
better if you do this first. And on it goes...

Turns out I do know a lot about SEO but I still don't consider
myself an expert. Just someone who knows enough to make a half-decent
living from this web stuff.

However, I did surprise myself when I went to the link below
and discovered I knew ALL the terms mentioned:

http://www.submitexpress.com/seodictionary.html

This site contains all the SEO terms you should be familiar
with if you're running a site and/or is interested in SEO.
The ordinary Joe on the street probably doesn't know these
terms and is probably better off for it.

But this whole site and issue got me thinking about SEO and
exactly what did I know about it. I sat down and tried to
summarize or condense everything I knew about SEO into a few
basic concepts or tactics.

Boiling it down to the core or to the heart of what SEO tactics
have worked for me. Just some simple techniques that has made

After Backlinks Your Most Important SEO Factor Is?

I don't believe even Google would argue BACKLINKS is the most important ranking factor, but what comes next? After you have quality backlinks related to the theme of your site or blog in place - what's the next most important ranking factor you should have set-up?

Some SEO experts will dispute this point and say there are whole combinations of ranking factors you must get right to land on the first page in Google and stay there. They could be right, for Google is on record as saying there are over 200 ranking factors!

However, if you want to find the next important (what I believe to be the next important) ranking factor go here:

I discuss this factor and some other curious HTML techniques which have proven beneficial in getting high ranking for my web pages.

7 Proven Internet Marketing Strategies To Increase Your Sales

I am constantly amazed by the number of people I meet on the web who have absolutely no marketing strategy whatsoever behind their site or online marketing.

I am even more amazed by the number of people who believe all they have to do is buy a domain, slap a few HTML pages together and place them on a web host somewhere. Then they expect everything else to just happen because their site or business is on the web!

It very rarely happens that way.

Creating an online business takes some planning and strategy if you want your site or business to succeed. You must have a plan of action, but most of all, you must have some fundamental marketing strategies behind your online site.

Now, I am speaking from experience here, because I also stumbled around on the web for 2 or 3 years like the people I described above. I foolishly thought just because I had a web site, I could do business on the web.

Well, not very much happened. I received very little traffic and very few sales. My site was going nowhere fast.

Fortunately, the theme I chose for my first site was Internet Marketing! I spent those first years studying all the online marketing material and information I could get my hands on. I gradually learned what to do and what not to do when it came to marketing online.

Mostly, I stumbled across some great Internet marketers like Marlon Sanders, Neil Shearing, Ken Evoy... true pioneers of online marketing. By studying those first class marketers and their marketing techniques I learned how it was all done.

Over time, I learned how to become very analytical with my sites and marketing. I started to create marketing strategies and put them into practice with my sites. This was all new to me because I have a background in education rather than marketing.

Now, I would like to share with you some of these marketing strategies and practices - just things I do and things I put into place which enable me to receive a modest but very comfortable online income.

So here are some things you can try:

1. Know Your Market Or Audience

First and foremost, you must know your market. Know who you will be targeting with your marketing? Know who will be buying your products or the affiliate products that you're promoting on the web?

I keep my eyes open for hot trends or products which everyone is buying. You can use programs like Google Trends to see which products are becoming hot. For example, in electronics, which products are on everyone's wish list? Is it laptops, PCs or netbooks? Are people buying smart phones, PDAs, Blu-ray Players or E-readers?

Just find out what products are hot? Find what products are being searched for in the search engines... do a check to see how many searches are made each month for your chosen product? Use WordTracker, or a free online site such as Seobook.com to see what products people are searching for on the web.

If there is a large demand/audience/market for your product or subject area, then you have a better chance of succeeding online. It is a simple marketing strategy that many first time marketers ignore - please don't. So choose your products to match the demand that is out there for them.

2. Buying Mindset

One of the key elements to selling stuff online is finding people at the exact moment they are ready to buy. What some marketers refer to as a "Buying Mindset". You find people who have their minds set on buying something when they reach your site.

This is much easier than you think!

A simple way I found to do this is to create sites which target keywords related to buying... such as gifts, coupons, bargains, deals and so on. For example, a site on wedding gifts will obviously attract customers who are interested in buying wedding gifts.

To give you a concrete example from my own site, I have a section on "Corporate Business Gifts" which offers special deals/coupons on corporate business gifts... someone searching for that phrase is more likely to purchase a gift. Just simple reasoning, but it works wonders for selling stuff online.

In the Info-Product market, many Gurus create a "Buying Mindset" by offering special bonuses and discounts if someone buys from their links. Another simple way to boost your sales.

3. Target Special Holidays

Along the same lines, I like targeting times when people feel obligated to buy. Using special holidays like Christmas, Mother's Day, Valentine's Day... in your marketing can be very effective.

There are occasions such as anniversaries, birthdays, weddings, graduations... when people feel they must buy something for a loved one or special friend. Targeting those occasions with your marketing can be extremely effective... people are looking for a birthday gift, a graduation gift or a wedding gift - you simply help them find what they're looking for.

On one of my sites, I target the "Back To School" market which has proven very lucrative since I market high-ticket affiliate items such as laptops, PCs and netbooks.

4. Place All Your Emphasis On Supplying Information

The majority of people searching on the web are looking for information - first and foremost - even those who are ready to buy. They want information on the subject or product they're searching for on the web. It should be your marketing strategy to give them this information.

All of my sites are based on supplying information to my visitors.

If you give solid information they will be pleased and take note of your site and a few will buy the products you recommend, but the information must come first.

Even popular selling sites like Amazon give loads of consumer information and feedback while selling their products on the web. Consumers want information on the products they're buying. Supply this information and you will sell more products.

5. Target Long Tail Keyword Phrases In Your SEO

If you're selling stuff on the web, it is extremely important that you have a SEO marketing strategy. You must use the search engines to bring in those quality visitors and potential customers to your site. You must rank high in the search engines for your chosen keywords.

I have found SEO is not easy but it is also not that hard to do. In order to rank high you must be persistent, have a six month or yearly plan... work at it over time, even years to build up your rankings. Most webmasters won't have the patience or resources to stick to a long-term strategy for months, even years before they start ranking for popular, well-searched for keywords.

However, there's another quicker and faster way to get quality traffic from the search engines. Instead of targeting highly competitive popular keywords, you target longer keyword phrases that have little competition. For example, someone searching for a particular brand and model is more likely to buy then someone searching for a general topic. Someone searching for "cars" compared to someone searching for "2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT" - the last phrase will have very few searches but it can produce more targeted buyers.

6. Build Lists of Interested Buyers

One of my most effective marketing strategies is building simple lists of people who want to receive further information on the subject or product they're considering buying. The web is a very temporary process since most people spend less than a few seconds on most sites. So it is important that
you try and get them to opt-in to your mailing list, join your Twitter account or FaceBook group... and so on.

You must build lists of people who are interested in finding out more about your subject or product. This way you will have repeat visitors to your site and you will get the opportunity to sell to them again and again. If you build a trusting relationship with these contacts, they will respect your opinions and suggestions.

List building can have a very positive effect on your sales numbers so it is one marketing strategy you should definitely try if you're not already using lists.

7. Sell Things You Can ONLY Buy Online

This marketing strategy is so simple - it's almost laughable. But I quickly found selling stuff that can only be bought online do much better than selling stuff that can be bought at your local Walmart. If buyers can only find it online, then you will have a much better chance of selling it to them.

Therefore, marketing unique products or specialty items, which are only available online can prove very lucrative. This is a very simple marketing strategy but also a very effective one. Just try it.

There are no doubt, countless other marketing strategies you can use. But using some or all of the ones listed above will help increase your online sales. Again, just try them and see for yourself.

Ouch Google That Hurts!

Just posted this article on my site about recent changes within
Google which affecting my keyword rankings. Something has shifted.
Article marketing seems to be on the way out - social bookmarking
sites seems to be in.

We will probably have to wait until the dust settles until we
find out for sure what is going on, but here are my own
finding and observations on these changes within Google.

I have always taken SEO tactics and techniques with a large grain
of salt. Which is probably the wrong approach since those tactics
have made it possible for me to enjoy working full-time on the web.

However, recent changes within Google has me deeply concerned
about the effectiveness of many of those old SEO tactics which
I have been using for years. On here, you must quickly adjust
or go the way of the Do-Do bird!

So here are some of my latest findings on some changes within
Google and how they (MAY) affect your keyword rankings. Hope
these findings will be of some help to your own online marketing...
