10 Ways To Make Your Site More Visible On The Web

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

There is one very important exception to the article
below...

If you have been reading my emails, you will know at
the end of last year, I created two sites to see if
having the "exact keywords" in your domain name will
get you on the first page of Google. The whole
"authority vs mini-site" question?

How do these mini-sites get to page one?

This is mainly due to the ranking power of having
the exact "domain name" for your targeted keywords.
This factor alone means your site will usually make
the first page of Google.

Now, these are low competition keywords with around
5,000 to 20,000 clicks a month for the exact keywords.
I did a lot of checking and for medium to high competition
- having the exact keyword phrase WON'T "automatically"
get you to the first page.

However, it does give you a good head start or a great
advantage when you do start to promote your site and
build links. Which makes it all the more important to
do your keyword research and get the right keywords
in your domain from the get-go.

With this exception in mind I have written another
article on how to make your site more visible on
the web.

It points out 10 ways to get better traffic and rankings
for your site. It's rather long and detailed so I have
placed it online here:

Back To Work - How To Boost Your Traffic & Sales

This is probably the saddest time of any year - September!

Getting back to work after a long hot enjoyable summer in
the sun is a real downer. No matter who you are. Still takes
some getting used to really working hard again.

Well, lets not get too carried away.

Work for me these days is getting out of bed, grabbing a
cup of hot tea and booting up my trusty Toshiba laptop to
check my overnight sales and traffic. I am still selling
$1000's of affiliate products from my different websites
that I run... things have slowed down because of the
bad economy in the States but everything is still very
manageable.

Christmas is just around the corner and that has always
been my most lucrative time selling anything on the web.
Even in bad times, Santa still has to put in an appearance,
he's the greatest cash generator ever invented.

But that's a little ways off yet - right now, I am boosting
up my traffic numbers and sales by going back to work.
There are countless things I do to boost those traffic
numbers and I have listed them in my latest blog post
here:

How To Boost Your Traffic & Sales

Hope you will find them helpful. They work for me and
my sites - they should also work for yours.

Kind Regards,
Titus

o These 10 SEO Tactics Bring Me Over 2000 Visitors Daily

.......

As you probably already know, getting traffic to
your site is a constant battle. One every webmaster
has to deal with if they want a successful site.

Lately, I have been examining this issue especially
after finishing John Reese's very good and very
comprehensive Traffic Secrets 2.0 course... it got
me thinking about my own sites and the traffic they're
getting.

My main site gets around 2000 visitors aday, most of
my traffic methods are traditional old school - but
they still work. I sat down and made a list of all
the SEO factors or tactics I use to get this traffic.

Most of these tactics you probably heard of before,
but like I said, they still work. Hope you can skim
thru these and see if you're missing any tips/tactics
that can increase your own traffic.

One other note, if you're into affiliate marketing
or online marketing of any kind... you don't need
large traffic numbers to earn serious money on here.
Another one of my sites only gets around 100 visitors
aday but it is just as profitable as my main site...
you just don't want traffic, you want traffic that
converts into a sale. If just 3 or 4 of those 100
visitors converts into a sale or subscriber - you're
in business.

Just something to remember as go about acquiring
traffic for your own site or sites.

Anyway here's the traffic article in full... hope
it helps.

No matter how hard some people try to mystify SEO,
it is not as complicated as many would lead you to
believe. Despite all the techno jargon that many in
the field will throw at you: SERPs, SEM, PageRank,
Keyword Density, Vertical Search, Algorithms...
SEO is really simple to do if you understand some
basic concepts and follow some easy steps.

Search Engine Optimization is getting your content
listed in all the top positions in Google, Yahoo and
MSN for your targeted keywords. When someone does a
keyword search in a search engine for your particular
subject or niche - you want your site or content to be
at the top of the list.

Here are 10 SEO tactics that have worked and are
working for me at this moment in time. I make this
clarification because you must understand search
engines, especially Google, are constantly redefining
how they rank pages. Here are my favorite tactics
and strategies:

1. Quality Content

Quality Content is and always will be your number
one factor for getting high rankings and keeping them.
You must understand search engines are simply businesses
who supply a product like any other company. That product
is information. They must offer quality results to anyone
using their service to solve a problem, answer a question
or to buy a product. The more relevant, the more targeted
the search solution they return, the higher the overall
quality of their product and the more popular their search
engine will become. Providing quality content is vital for
SEO success.

2. Keywords

Keywords are your number one tools for achieving high
rankings. You must understand keywords and how they work
on the web. You must know how many searches are made each
day for your chosen keywords. Sites like Wordtracker and
Seobook will give you a rudimentary number of searches.
Design your pages around your targeted keywords and don't
forget to do some deep-linking to these pages on your site.
Find and build backlinks to these interior keyword pages and
not just to your home page or domain URL. Picking keywords
with medium to low competition has worked out well for me.
So too has using the more targeted and higher converting
"long-tail" keywords been very beneficial for me.

3. Onpage Factors

Onpage Factors and site design will play a major
role in the spidering and indexing of your site/content.
Make sure all your pages are SEO friendly, made sure all
your pages can be reached from your homepage and no pages
should be no more than three levels away from it - keeping
a sitemap listing all your major pages makes the search
engines happy. Make sure you have all your meta tags such
as title, description, keywords... are all optimized.
(Title = around 65 characters, Description = around 160
characters) Remember, your title and description should
not only be keyword targeted but these are the first
contact/impression anyone will see of your site - make
sure you use them to draw and entice interested visitors
to your site and content. Also make sure your title and URL
are keyword matched for maximum effect. Having your major
keyword in your Domain Name also helps, using a pike to
separate different elements of your title has helped my
rankings, so too does having your keyword in the first
and last 25 words on your pages.

4. Google

Google will send you the most qualified traffic so
concentrate the majority of your SEO efforts on Google.
Don't ignore Yahoo! or MSN but Google is king of search
so give it the respect it deserves. With its new browser,
Google's influence will only grow stronger so you must
optimize your pages for Google. Use Google's Webmaster
Tools and Google Analytics to fine-tune your pages/content
for Google. I also use Google Alerts to keep up on my
niche keywords and for comment link-building on the
newly created pages Google is indexing.

5. Link Building

Link Building is still the most effective way to
boost your search rankings. Make sure you get backlinks
from relevant sites related to your niche market and
make sure the 'anchor text' is related to your keywords
but don't ignore the text and overall quality of the content
linking to you. The anchor text is the underlined/clickable
portion of a link. Don't forget linking is a two-way street,
make sure you link out to high quality, high ranked relevant
sites in your niche.

6. Article Marketing

Article Marketing is a well established method of
getting quality backlinks and it still works. Writing
short 500 - 700 word informative helpful articles
with your backlinks in the resource box is still very
effective for getting targeted traffic and backlinks.
Longer articles have also worked for me and I use an
extensive network of distribution including SubmitYourArticle,
Isnare, Thephantomwriters... plus other major online sites.
Don't forget the whole element of blogging and RSS feeds
in your article distribution. And always remember you're
also using these articles to pre-sale your content or
products. Don't forget to leverage sites like Squidoo,
Hubpages... to increase your rankings and traffic.

7. Onsite Traffic Hubs

Onsite Traffic Hubs have worked extremely well for me.
These traffic hubs are whole sections of your site devoted
to one sub-division of your major theme. For example,
if you have a site on Gifts, then wedding gifts could
be a separate section. This would be fully fleshed out
with extensive pages covering everything dealing with
wedding gifts - a self-contained keyword rich portion of
your site on wedding gifts. Works similar as a sub-domain
but I prefer using a directory to divide it up, such as
yourdomain/wedding_gifts. (Most experts suggest always
using a hyphen in your urls but underscores have worked
fine for me.) Search engines love these keyword/content
rich hubs but keep in mind you're creating content to
first satisfy your visitors.

8. WordPress

WordPress blog software is extremely effective for SEO
purposes. WordPress software is easy to install on your
site even if you have no experience with installing server-side
scripts. Besides search engines love these highly SEO friendly
blogs with their well structured content and keyword tagging.
I have at least one of these on all my sites to draw in
the search engines and get my content indexed and ranked.
I also use Blogger (owned by Google), Bloglines and other
free blogs to help distribute my content.

9. Social Bookmark/Media Sites

Social Bookmark/Media Sites are becoming very important
on the web. These include a whole range of social sites like
MySpace, FaceBook, Twitter... media news sites like Digg,
SlashDot, Technorati... you must get your content into this
whole mix if you want to take full SEO advantage of Web 2.0
sites. You should be joining these sites and using them.
It's time consuming but it will keep you in the swing of
things. One simple thing you must do is to put social
bookmark buttons on all your pages so that your visitors
can easily bookmark your content for you. You can use a
WordPress plug-in or I like using a simple free site/service
from Addthis.com which gives me a simple button to put on
all my content.

10.Masterplan!

Masterplan! Many webmasters and site owners forget to develop
or have an overall masterplan/strategy when it comes to SEO.
You must have an understanding of what SEO is and what it
can do for you and your site. More importantly, you just
don't want SEO - you want effective SEO. In order to achieve
effective SEO you must have three things: Relevance,
Authority and Conversions.

First, your content/site must be relevant to the topic
or niche area you're pursuing - your content must fit in
and be related to all the other sites in your niche. That's
why closely themed sites do so well in the search engines,
they give only relevant content to what's been searched
for or discussed.

Second, your content/site must be perceived as an
authority site on your subject or niche. Establish
this authority position and the search engines will
love you and your content. One way is to develop
this authority, besides offering superior content,
is to form links/partnerships with other perceived
authority sites in your field. Always strive to make
your site an authority site - tops in your niche - the
one site everyone has to check before drawing or
forming a conclusion.

Third, conversions should be your main goal of any SEO
efforts because you want to convert your targeted traffic
into site members, subscribers, buyers or just repeat
visitors. If you're into online marketing, conversions
will be the most important element of the whole SEO
process because you want buyers, not just visitors
coming to your site.

Most of all, you must convince yourself Search Engine
Optimization is not difficult, nor is it the equivalent
of the online bogeyman as many would like you to believe.
Used effectively, SEO can give you the targeted traffic
you're seeking, just follow some of the outlined steps/tactics
listed above and you will have SEO working for you and
your site in no time at all.

o How I Got 70,000 Useless Visitors To My Site In One Day!

I debated whether to use the word "Useless" in the title
of this article/report because no visitor to your site
is "Useless" but from a totally marketing point of view
these visitors weren't the kind of visitors I want or
usually attract to my site.

This article points out some of the real disadvantages
of using social bookmark traffic but it also has some
big pluses so read to find out what they are...

How I Got 70,000 Useless Visitors To My Site In One Day!
(One Internet Marketer's Analysis of Social Bookmark Traffic)

Copyright © 2007 Titus Hoskins

Recently, a page on one of my websites was bookmarked
or listed on Digg, a popular social bookmark site. It
gave me the perfect opportunity to study and analyze
the traffic coming from these social media sites. Read
to discover the advantages and disadvantages of social
bookmark traffic and how it can be applied to your
own online marketing or site.

Is Social BookMark Traffic Useless?

First, we must make the distinction that no traffic
is useless. Any visitor to your site is a good thing
and should be welcomed. However, all traffic is not
created equally, there are great differences in the
sources of your traffic. This article takes a close
analytical look at social bookmark traffic from an
internet marketing perspective.

In case you haven't noticed, right now social bookmark
and media sites are all the rage on the web. Social
bookmark traffic comes from such popular sites as
Slashdot, Digg, Stumbleupon... basically these sites
are driven by their users - that is, users or members
pick and bookmark the content they want to view and
discuss.

These social bookmark sites are extremely popular;
they command the high traffic numbers most ordinary
sites can only dream about obtaining.

But is this social bookmark traffic useful?

Is it worth your time? Should you be actively promoting
to these social media sites? Is social bookmark traffic
of any use to the affiliate marketer? Should you
concentrate your online marketing efforts on these
types of sites? More importantly, what are the benefits
and disadvantages of getting a front page listing on
a sites like Digg or Stumbleupon?

As a full-time online marketer I wanted to know the
answers to those questions. Moreover, I wanted to
discover how or if I could use these sites from
an online marketer's advantage; i.e. how can they
help me create more online income.

Recently, the Digg listing gave me a first-hand
opportunity to really study these sites.

Of course, nothing happens without a reason... I did
actually court these social bookmark sites by placing
the free Addthis.com bookmark on all my pages. You can
do the same. This simple bookmark lets your visitors
bookmark your content for you in all these sites; it
only takes a few seconds to place the bookmark code
on your webpages.

But be careful; getting your site featured on the
front page of these sites can drive 100,000's of
visitors to your site immediately, so much traffic
that it may overtax your server and crash it.

So be warned; if you're actively promoting to these
social bookmark sites just make sure your servers or
web hosting is up to the demanding task of handling
all these sudden visitors.

In my case, it didn't crash my servers but unfortunately,
the page/link in question featured an old poorly
written article I did on the history of the Internet.
It was just some random facts and things about the web,
not really an article at all. Why it was even
featured on Digg is a puzzle and beyond me.

But still I am not one to waste an opportunity, so I
put my Google Analytics into overdrive and starting
analyzing these visitors and social bookmark traffic.

It pointed out some very interesting factors about this
social bookmark traffic.

Most of this traffic will:

* simply bounce back
* very few visitors will spend much time on your site
* very few visitors will even venture into your site
* very few will sign-up to your newsletter
* very few will enter your marketing follow-ups/funnels

(The unknown variable here being the content on your
site, how good it is? How well does it perform?)

Regardless, one common problem with traffic from these
sites, it's very temporary traffic. The high volume
will only last a few days... until your item is moved
back from the front page.

These visitors will not stay on your site long and
most are gone within seconds, never to be seen again.
A few may sign up to your newsletter or venture to
other areas of your site but not many.

Social bookmark traffic is very fleeting, like
customers in the drive-thru section in a fast
food restaurant, they grab the content and surf back
to the major linking site very quickly and surf
on to the next item.

This traffic will behave very differently than
organic traffic from the search engines, or from
your newsletter traffic or from traffic in your
marketing funnels. Much different.

It was unlike getting one of my articles featured
in Addme or SiteProNews, where I can easily get 200
or 300 new subscribers in a day. Plus, these visitors
are interested in my information and have been exposed
to my content (article) before coming to my site.

So there was no comparison; I would take the
traffic from these sites any day over traffic
from the social bookmark sites. And I would
take free organic traffic from the search engines
over any other source of traffic including
PPC traffic.

So the question remains - is social bookmark traffic
useless?

First, as I mentioned before, you must realize no
traffic is useless; any visitors to your site is a
good thing. Without traffic your site is worthless,
just a few files sitting on a server in the middle
of nowhere.

Obtaining visitors is one of your first objectives
as a webmaster. You have to get visitors to your
site or it's game over.

The best kind of traffic is traffic coming from
organic search, visitors who come from the search
engines seeking exactly what you're offering on
your site. These are targeted visitors who will
consider your offer, real your information,
maybe buy a product or sign-up to your newsletter
or follow-up system. They often become repeat
visitors to your site. These are your ideal visitors.
This is the kind of traffic you want.

Social bookmark/media traffic is different but it
does have some saving graces.

Mainly it can help expose your site to millions and
help brand your site or business. It can get the word
out about your site. Start a buzz.

If you have a site that appeals to the mass market,
then these social sites could be an excellent
recruiting ground for visitors and traffic.

These social sites are good for another reason;
getting your links on all these high traffic,
high PR7 and PR8 sites can't hurt your search
engine rankings. Once featured on a site like
Digg, your link will appear on many secondary
sites around the web, so far 500+ and counting.
Monkey see, monkey do. Although it has never been
my main ambition to get featured on Fark.com, all
these sites do have high PR ranks so from a SEO
standpoint it is not necessarily a bad thing.

Since many of these visitors will be using the
Firefox browser which has the Alexa toolbar
embedded - your site's traffic rank will increase.
Over 50% of the bookmark traffic coming to my site
were using the Firefox browser. Alexa's traffic
rankings are not a true picture of the web's
traffic but it's a good measuring stick,
nonetheless.

Google might even consider it when ranking your
site. Google basically considers their whole
indexing system as a democratic voting structure...
sites give a vote by linking to your content;
wouldn't it also be reasonable to assume more
traffic means more votes. So wouldn't getting a
lot of traffic or being featured on a site like
Digg where the users vote to propel the best
content to the front be the ultimate vote.

One strange thing I did notice, for some reason
the traffic from Stumbleupon was different. These
visitors stayed longer on my site and reacted more
like organic traffic. Maybe the Stumbleupon site is
of a higher quality and this may have been reflected
in the quality of the visitors coming from there.
It also reminded me, all traffic from these social
media sites can't be judged with the one brush.

This whole experience also pointed out another
important factor; it made me realize how unsuited
my content is for the general web surfer or the
mainstream web. Just how much my online sites are
geared towards marketing and selling. My main goal
as an affiliate marketer is to gather leads and make
sales for the companies and products I promote. All
my sites and content were planned and organized to
first draw in targeted (warmed up) visitors from free
organic search and from my online articles.

If I or anyone wanted to take advantage of this
social media traffic, you would have to create
your site/content to appeal to these surfers and
then somehow draw them into your marketing funnels.
I don't know if the majority of the users of these
bookmark sites would make good prospects, but my
guess is not very likely, the nature of the beast.
But it would largely depend on what you're offering
on your site and how well it is suited to these users.

So I am not drawing any conclusions yet.

Hopefully, I will have further chances to study traffic
from these social sites and get the long-term effects,
especially in regards to my keyword rankings in the
search engines before making any final judgments.

For now I will keep an open mind but the jury is still
way out whether or not social bookmark traffic is worth
the interruption to the daily marketing tasks of your site.
Just seems like much ado about nothing.

o Social Bookmark

As I have mentioned before, regardless of my views
on the matter, getting all those visitors to your
site is a great boost to your morale if not your
marketing.

One very simple way to do this is to do exactly what
I did. I simply put the free Addthis.com bookmark
on my content and site.

Folks, as you can see for above, it works.

Only takes a minute to join and a few more to put

o How to Rank #1 in Google

It's no secret that the best road to an online
income is ranking int the #1-#5 spots in Google
for your keywords. Best three spots is ideal,
getting the number #1 spot in Google is pure joy!

I have held number #1 spots in Google for
some keywords now for many years... I never
take these for granted and make no mistake
- it does take constant effort to keep them
there.

Mainly link building with quality content other
sites want to feature on their sites and are willing
to give you a link in return. If you produce quality
content and information others want - you will get
the links and the higher rankings.

I explain my whole process in the eCourse offered
thru my main second site:

http://www.marketingtoolguide.com

A lot of people sign up for this course, but only
around 95% finish it! Can't help but notice this
is about the range of failure rate on the web...
only 5% ever make any money from online programs
or sites.

Of course, my writing is a bit winded and it's not
easy to explain stuff online... and it is very hard
to stick to one course and succeed.

Besides there are many ways to succeed online and
you pretty much have to find what works for you and
not someone else. You must find you own road.

However, there are many programs and ways of doing
this. Here's another road or way I would like to pass
along to you and yes this is an affiliate link.

I just found out that for the first time ever,
Internet marketing powerhouse Derek Gehl is
giving away 30-Day Trials of his exclusive
"Search Marketing Lab."

If you don't who Derek Gehl is - he is the person
who took over Internet Marketing Center when
Corey Rudl died suddenly in a car crash a few
years back.

For the next 30 days, you'll get an "all access"
backstage pass to Derek's private search marketing
testing labs where, using his tutorial videos,
breaking news reports, and discussion forum,
you'll discover how to flood your website with
unlimited FREE traffic from Google, Yahoo, and MSN...

... Using the same *secret formula* Derek has used
to beat out 294 MILLION competitors for #1 and #2
rankings for three years running.
