Google Like Matt Cutts

Google Like Matt Cutts

We probably all think we know how to use Google - the major search
engine on the web. However, there are many different ways to utilize
Google search and this simple Infographic shows you exactly how.

Of special interest for webmasters and SEO enthusiasts, you can
search within a particular site by using "site:cnn.com" and
most importantly you can discover who links to a particular site by
using "link:mysite.com" in the Google search bar.

Before long you will be Googling like Matt Cutts, who is currently
taking a break from Google and probably googling like mad. His
Twitter feed shows he is currently checking out different comic books.

Only Google Can Do It This Good

For online marketers like myself, Google is extremely important
to our success. Mainly because getting and maintaining those top
rankings in Google for lucrative keyword phrases is vital to
everything you do. It can make or break your online endeavors.

Google gave every webmaster and marketer a very bumpy ride in
2010 with the implementation of Google Cafiene and then quickly
following it up with the release of Instant Search and Instant
Previews. Plus, countless tweaking of their search engine listings
throughout the year.

However, for those of us who love this marketing stuff, Google
has also made it a very interesting year, to say the least. I
can't imagine an online world without Google, Facebook just
doesn't do it for me. But Facebook is turning into Google's
only competition, forget Bing, MSN, Yahoo... or any other
search engine for that matter.

Google isn't going anywhere, but in the back of my mind, some
long forgotten history lessons are resurfacing. Empires, no
matter how great or invincible they may seem at the time,
come and go, like the flow of the tide or seasons. Those
pesky lessons are constantly telling me nothing is forever,
not even Google.

As ridiculous as that notion seems at the moment, it is
something webmasters and marketers should keep in the back
of their minds, or maybe not. In my humble opinion, as long
as Google keeps morphing and adapting new features it could
have a thousand year reign as king of online search.

And a major part of Google's success, comes not from online
search, but from Google's influence in the real world. It has
given us countless programs which directly affect our daily
routine, from Gmail to Chrome OS to Google maps. It is those
programs which will keep Google in the world's eye for many,
many years to come.

It could be argued, no other company in history, has permeated
our lives as much as Google has done. It's influence is growing
and getting stronger. A major part of that influence comes from
all the programs Google has given to the community and all their
contributions to charities over the years.

The same goes for this year, in 2010, Google has donated 20
million to various charities. This is only a small token compared
to all the revenues Google has generated over the year, but it
is more than the thought that counts when you consider the recipients
of these gifts.

To find out who has received these gifts you can view the
video here:

Google Instant - Changing Online Search To Warp Speed

Google's new Instant Search is really something to behold
and it is faster than you can type. At first, it kinda freaks
you out somewhat, it is that fast.

See what a little competition can produce!

Maybe it has nothing to do with the introduction of Bing and its
upcoming union with Yahoo, but chances are pretty high this is
one of Google's responses to this new competition. Google has
made so many, many, many changes over the last 6 to 8 months - it
is a much more improved search engine.

This latest addition of Instant Search really raises the bar
on online search to a much higher level. One other search engines
will have to rise to if they want to compete with Google.

Anyway, I have written more on this new Instant Search on my
main site and what it may mean for online marketers and webmasters.

What is LinkBait?

Whatever it is - Google likes it, at least according to
Matt Cutts who even did a special YouTube video on the
topic. However, understanding exactly what LinkBait is and
how it works is a little more tricky.

What linkbaiting really boils down to is producing content so great
that other web masters will want to link to it. This can be an handy piece
of software, an outstanding article or a helpful SEO tool.

Actually any page on your web site can be used as linkbait. Create
outstanding content and other web masters will link to it automatically,
giving you those all important one-way links. This is free traffic which
comes to your site without you having to do nothing.

This "word of mouth" advertising is some of the best kind of promotion
you can get because it is totally organic and natural. People are voting
for your content by giving you links and traffic.

The effective use of "linkbait" can be a great way to market your
site or products online. And knowing a few little tricks can make
all your content more linkbait worthy!

Is Google Really Developing a Facebook Killer?

No less than CNN is reporting the rumors that Google
does indeed have a social networking site in the works
which could give Facebook some competition. This new
social site/program is supposed to be called GoogleMe or
Google Me.

Only Google knows the truth.

However, creating such a site would be a smart move on
Google's part since they do need to compete with Facebook,
mainly because Facebook is turning into a real search engine,
one that could possibly give Google a run for all those
lucrative search dollars. Ridiculous you say - not really,
especially when you consider Facebook's recent move towards
"Open Graph Search" and its use of the "Like" button and box.

Unless the surfing public changes overnight, Bing/Yahoo
is not going to give Google any real search competition,
but Facebook with its massive number of users and rating
system could present a true contender.

We also might see a complete change in how that surfing
public sees online search. Google and the other search
engines are quickly becoming one big "joke" in regards to
organic search with big companies buying and selling
their way into the top 10 spots and the search engines are
helpless to stop it.

Link buying and selling has made organic search a joke
and more and more web users are catching on to this fact.
Once this becomes common knowledge, search engines
will be appropriately viewed as corporate billboards
rather than anything of true relevance or importance
- even the mighty Google could fall.

That's why Facebook and its actual ratings/rankings by actual
consumers/customers are becoming much more important. While
even this kind of search equation is open to abuse, a
search engine based on such "user-based" results will beat
Google's SERPs any day.

More about Google's Facebook Killer

Once web users realize the true value of such rankings and
search engine, then Google will have some real competition at last.

Of course, Google is not standing still, for those of us who
make a full time living from search engine marketing will
tell you, Google is placing more emphasis on "user-generated"
content and ratings. They have placed more emphasis on
the "truer" ranking systems on the web, those coming from social
networking sites like Twitter, Digg, Del.icio.us, YouTube, MySpace and
even Facebook.

How many Tweets does a post get? How many Diggs does your
content gather? How many comments does your YouTube video
have? How many Thumbs Up? How many times is a web page bookmarked
in Del.icio.us and recommended to friends.

Granted even these social bookmarking sites can be manipulated,
but it is just a little harder to do than simple link buying
or employing simple SEO tactics/services to get your site to the top
spot.

Which brings us back to the question at hand, is Google developing
a social networking site like Facebook? If you count all the programs/sites
which Google presently offers up: Google Wave, Google Voice, iGoogle,
Google Accounts, Google Buzz, Gmail, Google Profiles... one could
even argue does Google really need another social networking program?

Even considering all of these current offerings, but is it just me, or is
there no real center to all these Google products? Google needs
one site which connects all of its programs/products at your fingertips,
maybe iGoogle should already fill the spot, but it doesn't take
in everything or have that crucial social networking element.

Google should have a social network site like Facebook, where
you can easily connect with family, colleagues and friends, but
this site should have a sidebar which lists all your Google's
programs/sites which you use. Make this site your "one-stop-center"
for all things Google.

Give Google and all its countless programs a concrete solid focus
or center. One click and everything that Google has to offer is
displayed on ONE page. More importantly, all Google's products need
to be consolidated and connected - Google Voice, Wave, Buzz, Maps,
Mail, Profiles, Search... all need to be functional in one simple
social networking platform.

Then make or develop a user-based ranking/rating system within this
newly formed social networking site and you will be able to
compete with Facebook when it comes to true democratic search.
Such a site, if it does materialize, could give Google's Search Engine,
and search in general, a much needed dose of honesty. Then again,
if wishes were horses, beggars would ride and Google would no
longer be a one trick pony.

Can Google Become The Next Facebook?

Everyone has an opinion on Google, here's mine. Most people would admit Google is the most important entity on the web, but Facebook is beating Google in a lot of areas and my main question is this: Can Google Become The Next Facebook?

Can Google Become The Next Facebook?

Is it just me but didn't Google recently put everything on its main homepage except for Google Buzz? What's up with that? For heaven's sake, they even put the PacMan game in their logo for two days running... you would think some of the brightest minds on the planet would have figured out by now if Google truly wants to compete on the new memeyouyou web, they simply have to fully integrate all their programs into one homepage or at least place Buzz right there along side the Gmail button.

Google Buzz has all the ingredients to finally make Google your one-stop center on the web. It can be THE place for sharing not just your conversations but photos, videos, and everything else. Will it live up to its full potential and become a true Facebook killer?

The main reason Facebook is such a threat to Google is not because of the massive amount of users it has, but the amount of time those users stay on Facebook. If you just look at the Alexa comparison alone, Facebook users spend over 30 minutes on the site, which is triple the time users stay on Google. Facebook also beats Google in the bounce rate and page views per user. Could all the recent changes to their SERPs be, not only Google's answer to the upcoming Bing/Yahoo marriage, but a strong way of presenting a real challenge to Facebook's overwhelming stats.

Web users are lazy and they want a one-stop solution to meet all their needs. They want to connect with friends and family, they want to broadcast to the world, they want to search for something to buy, they want to be entertained... iGoogle should be that solution/center but I don't believe it quite passes the test because there is still no Google Buzz?

The main problem with Google is that it has no well-defined center which users could call their own. Perhaps I am reading this wrong, but have Google users fully bonded with iGoogle? Putting the privacy issues aside, I don't think they have embraced it in the same way web users have embraced their Facebook. What is missing are all the elements that are present in Google Buzz, but again we seem to have two disjointed programs rather than one solid rallying point.

For many web users, Facebook is the starting point of their web day... in many cases, it is probably the only place they go on the web religiously each day. Why? Because all their friends/family are on there and they don't want to miss out on any news or gossip. Not checking your Facebook page has become the ultimate faux pas of this new social media etiquette.

No one is going defeat or compete with Facebook you say?

Not so fast! Even empires come and go, a web site is even more fickle, especially if something more convenient comes along. Does anyone remember MySpace
which is still a very popular site but no longer has the numbers it once had. Facebook or even Google could suffer the same faith if something better comes along.

Google's main business is online search. It is its bread and butter which may have blinded those in charge from seeing the bigger picture. The bigger payday.

Google owns so many popular sites within the top 20 including YouTube and Blogger... if only they could better connect all their interests into one SuperSite or one SuperDevice for those thinking within the box. Online search can still be the main course but you need to corral all of these different users into one starting point or center with a couple of Billion users logging in each morning to start their web day. Just imagine the ad revenue potential that would generate for the big G.

Impossible you say, but not really, all the ingredients are there to form this SuperSite but it needs one big bang to get it going, to create a center of the web universe which will be Google.

Whenever I think about Google, I am reminded of a class 5 Hurricane with all these popular sites and programs swirling around it like mad, but there is no eye to this hurricane, at least not yet. Google needs a solid center to draw everything into focus and get everyone at the same starting point. Whether it is the Google search page, Google Buzz, Google Profiles, Gmail or iGoogle... but it all needs to be pulled together if Google wants to truly compete with Facebook for all the marbles.

Changing A Webhost Can Affect Your Rankings In Google

Over the weekend, because I was having a lot of problems with
one of my web hosts, I simply had to change where the site
was hosted. Now, I usually wait till the last minute to change
webhosts because it's usually a lot of work and you can run
into unexpected problems.

This time around, the transfer went very smoothly, and my site
was only down for less than a day. I was feeling quite proud
of myself until...

...while checking my keywords today in Google I received
a total shock. My site had dispeared from the rankings.

Completely Gone!

Hopefully, this is just a temporary problem and the rankings
and site will again be listed in Google. They are still running
my PPC - so that's probably a good sign.

This has never happened to me before - I have changed hosts for
many websites in the past and my rankings in Google have never
been affected. One site back in 2007 was down for over a
week but the rankings still stayed in Google.

Hopefully this is only a temporary problem and once the site
is spidered again - it will be listed.

It is still in Yahoo and Bing, but Google has sent the majority
of my traffic so this is major set-back for this site.

Just points out to me, how crucial those top Google rankings
are for that site or any stie for that matter. Must get them back
as soon as possible.

Although I can't remember ever having a site disappear like that
so quickly. Often it is a matter of waiting to see what happens...

How to Get Free Automatic Traffic From Google

It sometimes surprises the heck out of me, the number of free
tools and resources Google makes available to webmasters and
online marketers like myself. There seems to be no end to the stuff
Google dishes out on a regular basis...

In my opinion some of the most helpful tools which Google
supplies have to do with keywords. Finding valuable keywords
which you can use to promote and market your site is the "key"
to online success - no pun intended.

Recently, I sent a very detailed newsletter to my weekly list,
talking about several of Google's keyword tools and how I use
them in the running of my 9 or 10 sites. This is only my experience
at marketing on the web and since I am and have been a full-time
marketer for over 5 years now - I must be doing something right.

But I want to make it perfectly clear - getting free automatic
traffic from Google has not come easy for me. I have put in many
10-15 hour days working at this web stuff. It takes a lot of
patience and a lot of persistence. I have never found that magic
bullet all the so-called gurus are always talking about... if there
ever was one I haven't found it.

Creating quality traffic that others will seek out and use is really
my one and only marketing tip. You have to create quality content
or its game over before you even get started. You have to create
something of value which the search engines can supply to their
customers.

Create that quality traffic and Google will come a calling sooner
or later.

Now, of course, there are certain ways to optimize all this quality
content so the search engines don't miss it. There are also many
ways to put your quality content in the best light possible, so it
rises to the top of the search engines.

For me, my marketing strategies always involve all the search engines,
but mostly Google. Over the years, I have worked out systems and methods
of online marketing that places my content on the first page of
Google. Again, no magic bullet, just plain hard work at getting
my content out there and noticed.

But it all starts with keywords...

If you want to find out some of the marketing techniques which
I use to get all that free quality automatic traffic from Google,
I have posted a rather long and detailed article on one of my
sites here:

How To Get Free Automatic Traffic From Google

But be warned, it does require a lot of hard work on your part, so
you will know up-front what's involved.

Google Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide

It is sometimes very surprising to discover how much information Google gives out about how it indexes and ranks pages on the web. Of course, they don't give us the complete story for obvious reasons - but they do give webmasters tons of information on how to optimize their web pages for Google.

Perhaps, one of the best sources of information is Google's pdf download called "Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide". It does contain some valuable information, especially for the beginning webmaster or site builder - what to do and what NOT to do - if you want to rank high in Google for your chosen keywords.

Here' my post on this whole issue if you're interested in finding out more about what Google is saying...

My Top Internet Marketing Tactics For 2009

Another year of marketing online has passed into history and
I can't help reflecting back on the last year and review my
most important marketing tactics. I am doing a few things which
are new, but for the most part I am doing all the same things
which I have been doing for the last 10 years.

Perhaps the biggest change has to do with the social media and
bookmarking sites... who knew something as simple and as silly as
Twitter would become so popular. What's up with that?

And Google has gone totally bonkers... introducing so many new
programs and products in the last few months, it makes your head
spin. Plus, they're doing a major overhaul of its search engine with
Google Caffeine which should be hitting right about now. Bing/Yahoo
is making it jump thru imagery hoops which they really doesn't have
to worry about, Google will probably only get stronger in the
coming months.

Bing has an outside change of becoming a verb but don't hold
your breath. Unless it becomes embraced by the surfing public
which is still a very unpredictable variable in the whole dynamic
of marketing online.

Anyway, if you want to view my top Internet Marketing Tactics which
I used in 2009 - you can find them explained in great detail in

Are Search Engines Becoming Irrelevant?

BWMagic's Internet Marketing News!

Are Search Engines Becoming Irrelevant?

In a week when Google has just launched "Real-Time Search" which it will incorporate into its search results, such a suggestion that search engines are becoming obsolete and irrelevant can be seen as downright laughable. Google is also about to launch Google Caffeine, its next generation search engine. And if that wasn't enough, Google is also introducing Google Goggles for mobile search which is turning quite a few heads and rightly so. And Bing is continuing its blazing media blitz that only a company like Microsoft could afford. Search engines are important than ever - aren't they?

Search engines are here to stay - right? They will play a leading role in the future web - right? Nothing can unseat or undermine the importance of these mighty search engines - right?

Whoa - Not so fast partner!

While search engines will always play a major role on the web but no matter how many new ways and programs they implement, nothing can disguise the fact that search engines are and have always been the "middlemen" of the web. Obviously, being in the middle, they come between you and the stuff you're searching for on the wonderful world wide web.

Will there ever come a time when the fastest way to find what you're looking for on the web be the direct route - cutting out or severely lessening the role of the mighty search engines? Will human nature dictate or lead us to take the direct and fastest route to the majority of the information on the web? Never underestimate human nature - it can take on the mightiest of opponents!

More importantly, will the evolution of the web and the web surfer, mean they become more and more web savvy so that they en masse cut out the middleman or middle route? Will more and more of these web savvy surfers change how the web actually works? In the process, will search engines take more of a supporting role in the "New Web"...

If you're interested in this whole foolish notion, you can read my "Soap Box" article here:

Should You Use Google Adsense On Your Web Pages?

This week I received an email from Marlon Sanders,
which brought back the whole issue of whether or not
you should use Google Adsense on your web pages?
Sanders refers to a very popular thread going
on at the WarriorForum presented by a guy known
as "XFactor". We don't make this stuff up folks.
Honest!

Anyway, this very interesting and informative discussion
on Adsense got me thinking about Adsense and should
I really be using it on my web pages? Be informed
that I am a long time Adsense user and I really have
no plans of stopping.

However, this whole Warrior thread has me stirred up,
(takes a lot to stir me up these days!) and I had to
further discuss this tricky issue with my own newsletter
subscribers.

For me, Adsense serves a very good purpose and it is
not all about making money from Google, there are much
more profitable ways to do that. But using Adsense on
your own site or web pages is a judgment call on your
part - should you use Adsense or not?

If you're interested in finding out more and my own
opinions on this XFactor guy... click the link below:

The Tricky Issue Of Duplicate Content And What Google Says About It

Being a full-time online means you have to keep a close watch on how
Google is ranking pages on the web... one very serious concern is the
whole issue of duplicate content. More importantly, how does having
duplicate content on your site affect your keyword rankings in Google
and the other search engines.

Now, recently it seems that Google is much more open about just how
it ranks content. I say "seems" because with Google there are years
and years of mistrust when it comes to how they treat content and webmasters.
Google's whole "do as I say" attitude leaves a bitter taste in most
webmasters's mouths. Many have had more than enough of this attitude
coming from Google and ignore what Google and their pundits say.

I have long learned you have to rise above your own personal feelings
or beliefs with it comes to running an online business. Never let your
emotions affect your business. Go with the flow and keep your mouth
shut if you like taking those trips to the bank. But Google has been
very kind to me on the whole, they have driven me nuts more times than
I can count, but overall I am very grateful and pleased with my dealings
with Google so I try to do everything I can to please them.

Regardless, whether you love or hate Google, there's no denying they
are King of online search and you must play by their rules or leave
a lot of online revenue on the table.

Now as for the whole issue of Duplicate Content, Google offers up
some much needed advice on the subject. I have gathered some information
and videos coming directly from Google and placed it in the link
below. This is information coming from Matt Cutts and Greg Grothaus on the subject of duplicate content. If you're worried or just want to find out more on this subject go here:

Ouch Google That Hurts!

Just posted this article on my site about recent changes within
Google which affecting my keyword rankings. Something has shifted.
Article marketing seems to be on the way out - social bookmarking
sites seems to be in.

We will probably have to wait until the dust settles until we
find out for sure what is going on, but here are my own
finding and observations on these changes within Google.

I have always taken SEO tactics and techniques with a large grain
of salt. Which is probably the wrong approach since those tactics
have made it possible for me to enjoy working full-time on the web.

However, recent changes within Google has me deeply concerned
about the effectiveness of many of those old SEO tactics which
I have been using for years. On here, you must quickly adjust
or go the way of the Do-Do bird!

So here are some of my latest findings on some changes within
Google and how they (MAY) affect your keyword rankings. Hope
these findings will be of some help to your own online marketing...

.......
Contents:

o Using Google Adsense For Profit & Monitoring

o Using Google Benchmarks To Improve Your Site

o Simple Market Research With Google Trends

o Information Gathering With Google Alerts

o Free Online Graphics Editor

.......

I did an earlier newsletter on using Google to
gather vital information about your site and
online marketing but many readers didn't receive
it so I am re-sending it with a few more Google
tactics that I use each and every day to gather
information about my site and my competitors.

You have probably figured by now that Google is
my main marketing tool I use to earn a very
comfortable living online. Yeah, I know you're sick
of hearing that line, but I keep repeating because
I believe it is important for you get marketing
information from a full-time affiliate marketer
who's marketing on the web; day-in, day-out.

These are the Tactics I use every day to compete
on the web. They work for me and they should
also work for you.

Google must be your number ONE ally if you truly
want to succeed online. Love it or hate it - Google
is fast becoming the dominant marketing force on
the web and you must use and exploit it to your
advantage.

When most people mention Google, all they think
of is the Search Engine. But if you're marketing
or promoting your site on the web - Google is so
much more. It has countless programs you can use
to further your goal.

Here are some of ones I use:

o Using Google Adsense For Profit & Monitoring

I use Google Adsense on almost all my site, it's
a simple way to monitize your site or sites.
Google gives you a simple piece of code which
you place on your webpages and it serves up
text or image ads marked "Ads by Google" on
your pages.

If someone clicks on your ads you get a few
pennies or a few dollars... Google Adsense
is great if you have a large content filled
site and want to earn revenue from your traffic.
I use it in conjunction with my other affiliate
links on many of my pages.

Now, I can get 10, even a 100 times more with an
affiliate link/click so I mostly use Adsense where
I am not targeting a particular affiliate product
with my marketing. However, I have received
Adsense checks each month for the last three
or four years - always puts a smile on my face
to get that check from Google!

But also use Adsense to track and monitor my
site's traffic in 'real time' and it gives me
a good picture of how my pages are doing. I still
use my log stats to monitor my traffic but
Adsense is just another way to do it.

If you're not using Adsense on your sites, I
suggest you give it a try.

Google Adsense

o Using Google Benchmarks To Improve Your Site

If you have a website, it's only natural that you
would like to know how your site compares with other
similar sites on the web. Now, we are not talking about
comparing apples to oranges here - we are talking about
comparing your site to others that are the same
in size and traffic.

Google Benchmarks which is a part of Google Analytics,
lets you compare your site to other sites on the
web that are similar to yours. It will tell you
how your site is performing compared to your
competition. This is enormously valuable information
because it gives you a clearer picture of how your
site is performing.

I find it extremely helpful in telling me what
parts of my sites are not working and where I
have to make improvements. It also tells me what
parts of my sites are working or performing above
my competition.

Things like bounce rates, pageviews per visit,
time on site... I can see how my sites are doing
compared with others in my area of interest.
This is vital if I want to keep my sites competitive
and "in the game".

If you're not using Google Analytics and Google
Benchmarks, I would strongly suggest you use this
free service from Google. It is a great way to
track your sites and visitors. It is invaluable
for improving your site's content.

You can also use the Website Optimizer to test which
content, headlines, graphics, page design... are best
for converting your visitors into customers or clients.
Simply find out what works best and use it.

If you're not already using Google Analytics I
strongly suggest you start using it. You can
sign-up here:

http://www.google.com/analytics/

o Simple Market Research With Google Trends

Another Google program that I use a lot is
Google Trends, especially when I am first
developing a site or looking for small niche
markets I can make profitable. Google Trends
tells you what things or topics are "hot" or
"popular" - ones being searched for by web users.

Google Trends can give you a good overview of
of things that may be worth your time and effort,
in regards to marketing. It also lets you compare
different items and it gives you a graph read-out
of how popular each one is or is becoming.

For example, if you're selling electronics on
your site, and you want to find out if you
should spend more telling selling PCs
or Laptops.... you can do a Trend search for
each one and compare your results.

What's even just as great, Google Trends will tell
you how popular they are in different countries
or regions of the world. Again, if you're marketing
on the web, this will give you some simple
market research into your area of interest.

You can check Google Trends here:

http://www.google.com/trends

o Information Gathering With Google Alerts

Perhaps, one of my most favorite of all
Google programs is Google Alerts. This is
simply the most valuable tool for searching
for information on your site or topic.

You use Google Alerts to "tag" or "mark"
any subject or phrase you want Google to
email alert you - when any new content appears
on the web related to your topic or phrase.

These Alerts will give you the links to
the new pages so that you can check out
the information. It is a great way to
"keep up to date" on all your niche markets
and keywords you're targeting with your
sites.

This is also great for link building since
many of these Alerts will be blog links
and you can easily go and add your comments
with a link back to your site. Google will
send you email alerts when a new link or page
is created on your targeted keyword.

I also use this free service from Google to keep
track of my name so that whenever someone
is saying something about me anywhere on
the web - I know about it!

I do the same thing for my sites. You can also
use it to track your articles, keywords or just
about anything for that matter. Invaluable service
for gathering information on the web...

Get it here:

What Google Thinks Of Your Site?

o Free Online Graphics Editor

And now for something completely different...

I heard about this free online graphics editor
from Design Guru Ryan (The guy who does my
web graphics) and it looks very good.

It's called Pixlr and if you need to quickly
design or fix your graphics, this could be
a very good option if you don't have your
own image editor on your desktop.

You can find it here:

http://www.pixlr.com/

o Google Reveals More Ranking Factors

o Marketing In Harsh Economic Times
.......

If you're like me, you have a major stake
in how Google ranks your site or sites.
The more information I can dig-up about
Google, the better my sites perform.

Lately, there seems to be a lot of information
coming from the top search engine on the web.
Google is becoming more transparent in how
it ranks pages in its index. For webmasters
like myself, this is very welcomed news.

Google uses 200 different ranking factors
in its algorithm... any webpage that it
ranks has to be filtered thru these factors.
The more you know HOW Google ranks pages, the
better you can prepare your site and marketing
to match their expectations.

Google Q/A Chat

Google for so long has been very tight-lipped
about how it ranks pages... it has been one
of the major "beefs" webmasters has had with
Google.

Is all this now changing????

Maybe.

Sometime in the not so distant past, higher
board members or CEOs must have made a strategic
change in HOW they would treat webmasters...
who after all are really Google's bread and butter!

It's our products and content they're dishing
up in their SERPs... why bite the hand that
feeds you! Maybe Google has finally gotten the
"webmaster" issue right, just like have gotten
so many other things right.

Those top Google executive members must have
decided to deploy the troops in helping
webmasters understand how Google ranks
webpages.

So now you Google troopers such as Matt
Cutts, Maile Ohye, among others... following
orders from on high and opening up about
Google and ranking.

Now Google is not giving away the shop, but
they are becoming a lot more open and straightforward
in their answers many concerned webmasters have,
regarding how their sites perform within Google.
Which can only mean less sleepless nights
for webmasters around the world.

We are talking all "white hat" by the book
SEO techniques here... how to build backlinks, how
to optimize your pages, how to link out to
other sites, and the list of SEO methods goes
on.

If you're serious about ranking high within
Google - this "Live Chat Q/A" will give you
a lot of solid pointers.

Check it out here:

Google Q/A Chat

o Marketing In Harsh Economic Times

Don't have to tell you, these are very scary
economic times no matter where you live in the world.
What's happening with the stock markets,
mortage meltdown, government bailouts...
no country seems immune to all these predictions
of a looming recession.

What does an online do and how should you react
to these tough times?

So far, I haven't seen much of a downturn in
my own online sales yet, although there's a slight
dip in some luxury affiliate items that I sell,
but believe it or not, there are still people buying
big-ticket items on the web.

But there has to be a slow-down in online sales...
given all this bad news and how reluctant prospective
buyers are becoming. So the real question remains -
how do you market in these tough times?

Perhaps, you should look towards those industries
that are recession-proof to find your answer.
Look towards health care, education, renewable
energy, environment, security, international business...
these areas the experts say are the most recession-proof.

Keep in mind, when things are tight financially,
people look for ways to save money. It not exactly
rocket science to understand that Walmart was one
of the stores to see an increase in sales lately...
while most others are dropping.

For the online marketer, this could be pointing
to areas where there are opportunities. You can
look for bargain retailers, discount stores, coupon
shopping... as areas where there will be more
and not less economic activity.

Then you have all these workers who have lost their
jobs looking for new ways to earn more income. You
have retired people who will be looking towards the
web to supplement their dwindling retirement savings.

Online education could be a major area of activity
in the coming months as laid off workers upgrade
their resumes.

Even Internet Marketing will probably see a minor
boom as many people look for ways to earn a little
extra part-time income. We could see major increases
in online webinars and off-line seminars as experienced
marketers take advantage of this opportunity to
teach others how to sell and earn on the web.

Since many people will be worrying about debts
and bills - any financial courses, services and
helpful programs will probably be very popular.

So too will software programs that help people
cope with all this financial stress and worry.
If you look closely, there should still be a
lot of areas for your online marketing could
prosper. Just adjust your marketing to suit
the times.

Here's a really good example of what could
do well in these harsh economic times.

Titus

o Happy Birthday Google

o 10 Most Valuable Free Google Marketing Tools

o Google Impact
.......

As you probably know Google is celebrating its
10th anniversary this year. Don't know about you
but Google has been very good to me and I will
always be grateful.

Google has made my online livelihood possible -
organic rankings, Adsense revenue, Adwords...
perhaps I could have done it without Google, but
it would have been a lot more difficult. Just can't
imagine doing all this without Google.

It's hard to believe Google has only been around
for 10 years... it has made all the difference to
my online marketing. I have used Google and Google
Tools every day for the last six or seven years.

And it seems Google is only getting stronger and
better. The new Google Chrome browser will only
add to the long list of Google's helpful offerings
to the public.

With this in mind, here is my list of the most
10 useful tools Google has produced. I am more
than a little biased but for very good reason...
you might want to skim thru these to see if there
are any you can use.

o 10 Most Useful/Valuable Free Google Marketing Tools

10 Most Valuable Free Google Marketing Tools
Copyright © 2006 Titus Hoskins

Google has become the dominant search engine on
the Internet. It would be hard to imagine a web
without Google. For that matter, it would now be
hard to imagine a world without Google. As frightening
as that may seem to many people, it is none the
less true.

For better or worst, Google has permeated into almost
every aspect of our everyday life. Being Googled is
now a common expression and an act carried out by
millions of users around the world each day. New
Google products and services are coming on stream
at a staggering pace, further increasing Google's
impact on our lives.

Despite this dominating presence, many people still
don't realize Google offers some excellent free marketing
tools for marketers and webmasters. Marketing tools which
can prove extremely valuable to any webmaster or marketer
trying to promote their sites or products online. Useful
tools that will make your promotions easier and much more
profitable.

Don't be fooled by the 'free' label, these marketing tools
might be free but there are also valuable. One even wonders
why Google would be giving away these tools and services for
free? It probably makes good business sense in the long
run, by providing these free tools Google is fostering a
lot of company good-will and building up the Google brand
name in the process. Good PR is good business.

Every marketer and webmaster should be taking advantage of
Google's good-will and snapping up these professionally run
services and marketing tools. Here's a quick run-down of
the 10 most valuable free Google Internet marketing tools:

1. Google Analytics

Perhaps the premier marketing tool offered by Google.
It will prove helpful to both the marketer and the
webmaster. Google Analytics gives you a daily snapshot
of your web site. Google Analytics analyzes your traffic,
where it comes from and what it does once it enters your site.
You can monitor up to three sites for free.

Google Analytics is extremely valuable in analyzing your
marketing funnel, it tracks all the steps leading up to your
sales or checkout page. Vital information for raising
your conversion rate and ROI.

You may be placed on a waiting list for this highly in
demand service from Google.

Google Analytics

2. Google Sitemaps

Webmasters can use Google Sitemaps to almost instantly place
newly created pages on their site into the Google Search Index.
This is an XML file that is uploaded to Google as new pages
are added on your site. Needless to say this can be a valuable
service for any webmaster or marketer who wants to get their
information on the web quickly.

Google Sitemaps

3. Google Alerts

Be notified when someone or another site lists your site
or mentions your name. Great way to keep track of all your
online activities. Great way to monitor all your online
business interests and products.

Google Alerts

4. Google Froogle

Froogle is Google's price directory! It simply lists all
the cheapest prices for different products on the web.
For marketers and webmasters who are promoting products,
it should be studied and analyzed. Optimizing your
site's content for Froogle may prove to be very beneficial.

Follow Froogle or Google directions exactly on how to
list or display products on your site. Froogle will
spider your site and display your prices and products
to thousands of targeted customers. That, as they say,
is priceless.

Google Froogle

5. Google Checkout

Not exactly free but for those marketers who use AdWords
- for every $1 spent on AdWords you can process $10 for free.
You can also place the shopping cart logo on your AdWords ad
and take advantage of the prestige and trust the Google
brand name has built up.

Over time marketers may find this tool to be very
effective and valuable.

Google Checkout

6. Google eBlogger

Blogging has become vitally important to the health and
functioning of your web site. No site should be without
at least one blog and RSS feed. Creating a blog (online journal)
on the topic of your web site or product will bring in extra traffic
and targeted customers. eBlogger is a simple free
blogging service that even lets you publish or post your blog
files to your own web site server. Keep in mind, each blog
has that all important Google Blog Search bar.

Google eBlogger

7. Google Toolbar - Enterprise Version

Try the new enterprise version of the Google Toolbar
for your company or business. Integrates countless
features with all your employees or corporate
network. These could include a common customer
database, company calendar, financial news...

Keep in mind, Google also ranks every page it indexes on
a scale of 0-10. While it is important to know the Page Rank of
your own pages, it is even more important to know the PR of
your competitor's pages. You can use the toolbar to get
the PR of each page you're visiting. Extremely helpful
information for webmasters and marketers to know when
forming online linking or business arrangements.

Google Toolbar

8. Google Groups

Every marketer knows the important of having a large
contact list of people with a similar interest. Social
networking will play an ever increasing role in your
success on the web. Just look at the growing popularity
of sites like MySpace and LiveJournal.

Google groups is another form of social and business
networking that every marketer should be aware of and
pursuing.

Google Groups

9. Google Adsense

One simple way to monetize your web content is to
use Google Adsense. Just place the Adsense code
on your site and receive a check from Google each
month. For webmasters who are not really into
online marketing (does such creatures exist?) Adsense
can be a painless way to earn extra income from
your site.

For professional marketers using the Adsense system can
supply a tremendous amount of marketing information on the
keywords in their particular niche. It keeps the
marketer informed on what keywords are being bid
on and how much advertisers are willing to pay.

Adsense also has an excellent real-time tracking
system you can use to keep track of all your
important web pages.

Google Adsense

10. Google Docs

A recent addition to Google's stable of free products.
Google Docs (Writely.com) is a full featured online writing
editor with spellcheck and great collaborating features.
It also lets you publish your content directly to your blogs.
One feature that may be of interest to marketers, it lets
your save files in the popular download format of PDF.

Lets face it, until video takes over the web in four
or five years time - the written word is still king on the
net. It is the medium that markets, promotes and sells
your content or products. Writely will help you write better.

Google Docs

Honorable Mention - Google Trends

This Google program will let you search popular trends,
important for marketers searching for the latest hot
product to promote. You can also break down these trends
by different regions.

Google Trends

Final Note

Please take note that signing up for a Google account will
usually help you in obtaining most of these free services or
programs. Some of these programs may have to be applied for
individually. But be assured, all these free Google marketing
tools are well worth your time and effort. They will make your
marketing easier and they will help any webmaster or marketer
run their online business more efficiently.

o Google Impact

Google, in honor of its 10th birthday, is funding
10 million dollars for the idea that can help the
most people. An idea that could have the most impact
on our world.

It's an ingenious way to celebrate Google and
what it stands for... a birthday gift to everyone.

What would you come up with? What idea would
do the most good? Offer the most benefits?

Actually, if I was re-inventing the world, I
would wish for that much-rumored Google Box.
A small mobile device that would give free
internet access to everyone on the planet.
It would be handed out like Halloween candy
to anyone who wanted it... virtually litter
the earth with this Google Box.

So that no matter where you're located or what
your need or crisis might be, the Google Box
would come to your aid. In schools, airports,
malls, homes, vehicles and very remote places
of the world... the Google Box would be there
for you to use and get help, regardless of
your request or problem. It would offer some
helpful practical solutions to solve your
problem... what more can you ask for?

Not really feasible but as long as we're
dreaming. Besides, did I mention I am a big
fan of Google...

o URL Canonicalization - Should You Do It?

This week I am working on the tricky issue
of url canonicalization. Big name for something
that's really simple - some search engines read
the different versions of your domain's url
as different - www.yoursite.com and yoursite.com
can have different number of links pointing to them.

They may consider the www and non-www versions
as two different sites, although obviously it's
your "one" site with the same content.

Canonicalization was a big topic a few years back,
which had concerned webmasters worried they were dividing
or diluting their Google PageRank. Should you still use
it or not? Read my SiteProNews blog post to find out...

url canonicalization should you do it

o Google Is Everything Or Is It?

Bill Platt and his site thephantomwriters.com is one
of my secret weapons for getting high rankings. His
article distribution system is excellent - I have
known Bill for years and have been using his system
for just as long.

But I also admire Bill for his writing skills - he's
one of the best I have come across. Just look at that
title above for a second and think about the drawing
power it has!

I couldn't resist going to the article and reading
it. It you're just as curious - you can read it
below. You won't be disappointed in the information
you'll find:

Don't Make These Fatal Website Design Flaws

o Fatal Website Design Flaws

Keywords

I am often asked by subscribers if I can take a look
at their websites and tell them what they're doing
wrong.

Most times I find very good content but the websites
have some very basic design mistakes which dooms these
sites to failure.

The major flaw I see concerns 'keywords' - these sites
are not targeting good searchable keywords. If nobody
is searching for your keywords in the search engines
your site will suffer greatly.

You must make sure your site is targeting keywords and
keyword phrases your visitors are actually typing into
search engines to find what they're looking for on the
web.

You must check to see the number of searches made
each month for your keywords. I personally use
professional keyword research software called
'Keyword Elite'.

But you can use any free online keyword suggestion
tools to see how many searches are made. This is a
good site:

Keyword Suggestion Tool

Check and find good keywords related to your site
and optimize your site for them. Don't pick the
most competitive keywords because placing for
them on the first page in the search engines
will just be too hard.

Instead pick long tail keyword phrases that
have fever searches but you have a better chance
of ranking high for these phrases.

Homepage Exterior Links

Another common flaw I see on some websites is
too many exterior, external links on the homepage.

Most SEO experts suggest ALL your links on your
homepage should be internal links - pointing to
your own content filled pages on your site. External
links should be on a separate 'links page'.

If you want to use affiliate links, create a
separate page for each affliate product or program
and link to this page on your site. Place your
affiliate ID link and moneymaker on this internal
page, rather than on your homepage.

To rank high, especially in Google, all your
PageRank and visitors should be funneled into
your site and not out to some external links.
This is extremely important on your homepage -
so make sure all or most of your links are
internal links.

As for other mistakes in designing your site,
especially where the overall look and feel
of your site is concerned. Here's a good
free resource by Marlon Sanders entitled

"10 Graphic Design Mistakes"

Get it here:

10 Graphic Design Mistakes

..................................

o Google Plans to Buy the 700 MHz Band?

In a press release, Google gave everyone notice
that it plans bid 4.6 billion dollars to buy
the 700 MHz band when it is auctioned off next
year.

Google is promoting four types of 'open' platforms
which would make up the license conditions. Google
would like to see:

"Open applications: Consumers should be able to
download and utilize any software applications,
content, or services they desire;

Open devices: Consumers should be able to utilize
a handheld communications device with whatever wireless
network they prefer;

Open services: Third parties (resellers) should be
able to acquire wireless services from a 700 MHz
licensee on a wholesale basis, based on reasonably
nondiscriminatory commercial terms; and

Open networks: Third parties (like internet service
providers) should be able to interconnect at any
technically feasible point in a 700 MHz licensee's
wireless network."

Why is all this important you ask?

Mainly because it could mean Internet access
anywhere, anytime. It could also spell the future
of the web.

Google is basically an advertising company, could
a free Internet available anywhere, anytime be the
perfect vehicle for all those ads? The Internet will
be Free in the future, it's only a matter of figuring
out how it can be done. One can only wonder if Google
will be the medium as well as the message? Helped by
a little piece of hardware called the iPhone!

Could Google's latest intention be one more step to a
Free Internet?

My Internet Marketing Story

We all have our own story to tell. Everyone
has a story to tell. We all make our own choices
and decisions along the way which affect how we
live and hopefully prosper.

My story is not out of the ordinary but it does
have to do with Internet Marketing so it might be
of some interest to those who are trying to set
up an online or home business on the web.

Because this part of my life and story concerns
the Internet, I guess it is not typical. Although
now the web seems such a solid part of my life
- it is very hard to believe 10 - 15 years ago
the Internet never existed!

I have a background in art education, and have
been somewhat of a free spirit where work is
concerned - I have worked as an professional
artist but that work can be loosely translated as
starving.

Although I have always fell back on teaching
as safeguard against total starvation and
extinction.

When we first got the Internet, my eyes really
came open. I live in a somewhat remote part of
the world, a rock in the Northern Atlantic but
the Internet reached us slowly but surely. We now
have high speed Internet.

I quickly saw the net as a way of earning a living
from home - right where I was. Like thousands
of people who want the freedom of working from
home, setting your own hours... work where ever
you want in the world.

All my operations and sites are online - I can
work anywhere you have Internet access, and these
days that's anywhere on the planet.

Reaching a 5 figure monthly income didn't come
quickly or easily and I have put in some long hard
days... working 12-15 hour days are not uncommon.

I still put in some long hours but once you set up
an automated marketing system with websites,
autoresponders, article marketing... it basically
runs itself. However, I am constantly adding content
to my sites, blogs and newsletters... it is a lot
of work.

Don't know where that 'Four-hour Work Week' some of
the big Marketing Gurus are talking about - I work
long and hard for my income!

But the rewards have been totally worth it for me,
I enjoy the writing, I enjoy the SEO stuff and I
enjoy keeping track of all the latest developments
in web marketing. It has become a true passion
with me... something I didn't expect to happen
when I started my first site and didn't have a
clue how it all worked.

My story is like thousands of other web marketers
who are making a good living from the net. There is
nothing special about me, anyone can do what I am
doing... it's not rocket science or anything close
to it.

If you want to find out exactly all the details
of my story and how I am making a very comfortable
living from the web just follow the link below.

Everyone has a story! Mine is called: "In Search Of
The $100 Click or How I Found A Full-Time Online
Income And Came To Love The Internet" It's located
